The Buckingham Arms (Bar)

The Buckingham Arms is a grand Victorian building close to Buckingham Palace, with a long, busy bar. Originally a shop that became a pub in the 1840s and known as the Black Horse until 1903. Young's bought it in 1930. Sports events on four televisions.

“This pub has changed dramatically for the worse. It was one of London's best - a real old-fashioned pub with a lot of warmth and atmosphere, great beer and a dog, and it was often packed, especially on Friday nights. But it's had a "makeover": the beer is okay still, but the decor is predictable and naff, like a million "yoof" orientated pubs, with high chairs, and there's now music. It's horrible, and it's obvious the regulars have deserted: it was nearly empty last Friday night at 8. The bloke behind the bar is sarky, too, which doesn't help. It's a real shame what's happened to the Buckingham. I won't be going again until I hear someone's changed it back to what it was.”
