Waxy O'Connor's Description

An intricate wooden labyrinth split over six levels with four bars, Waxy near Leicester Square has a quirkiness that envelops everyone who steps through the door. It is vast yet cosy, punctuated by church pews, low ceilings and a maze-like floor plan. Going for a walk to the loos is like being stuck inside a TV game, with someone who has no idea how to use the controls. But no matter, on the odyssey you'll discover several charming little nooks and crannies in the form of a 'Confessions Booth' and a balcony, great for sneaky couples. And with dozens of Irish whiskeys on the rail and live Irish folk music on Sundays, visitors and locals agree that the Waxy experience is truly unique.

“The service here is absolutely excellent - although i found the staff to be very unfriendly. After about 9pm the place got really packed (too much for my liking)- so the best time to go is before then especially if your'e eating. The food is average - I found all the food to have a really bitter taste for some reason. The bread and butter pudding was nice though as well as the Irish coffee which was extremely strong. The noise in the bar is very loud, so conversation might be hard, but again, best to go before it gets too busy. I LOVE the look of the place - it is so artistic with its windows, low ceilings and nice wooden touches all over the place.”

“i really enjoyed waxy o'connors. the music especially was very attractive as it was all the hits from the 90's - when i was a teeny bopper. it was so much fun. Even though i went on a thursday night, it was still busy with full of intersting people. great place.”

“This is without a doubt the best bar to go to for a drink after work or as a pre-club pub or just as a not have-to-get-all-dressed-up-and-love-yourself bar! It looks like it could be a little cafe from the outside but it's HUGE and very imposing when you get in! It's beautiful inside, like a traditional pub but with lovely throne style chairs and coves to hide in (if you want to!) It's also pub prices and the staff are sound! Love it!”

“Waxy's has the best bar staff in London. You get served quicker than anywhere else the staff aren't looking in the mirror. They are very quick and attentive and the atmosphere is better than anywhere in Soho.”

“The place looks like a hole in the wall when you first walk in, but that is not the case. There are many levels with many different bars. The music played was great, but nowhere to dance. I would definately go back. If you're looking for cocktails this isn't the place.”
