The Wellington Description
The Wellington is featured in these Guides:
The Wellington is a gem of London history that serves a formidable steak-and-ale pie. As one would expect of a venue sharing the name of such a proud British dignitary, the pub is traditional and really quite dashing. The food spares no heart and the Nicholson’s chain does well to provide a selection of cask-ales that go nicely with probably some of the best chips in the city. What’s more, the pub is at the heart of the theatre buzz without the fuss of Covent Garden. The Wellington is a haven, but undoubtedly a classy one.

“An excellent range of independent ales, and premium lagers, plus, it's main attraction, the alfresco area outside where the West End's finest gather for a post-work, or pre-theatre pint before going to the Lyceum next door to see the Lion King or over the road to Somerset House to an outdoor gig or summer cinema screening.”

“While i can't complain about the quality of the beer, the food and service in the upstairs restaurant was amazingly bad. I have never encountered such a rude waitress, and the 'sunday roast' was extremely average.”

“Specialists in putting off the customers. While in London, doing a report on the attractions for the paper I work for, I stumbled onto the pub and had my Guiness with a great pleasure. Returned on the same day and ate well, too. The following day, though, with some vacant tables upstairs, where I sat during both visits, me and a friend were told to have our beers downstairs. There was no seat to take. Off into the cold. Goodbye ''The Wellington'' - for ever...”

“Avoid this pub at all costs!!! There were mice running round the floor in the restaurant. The food is below average and over-priced. Generally a bit of a hole. Compared to the array of other pubs in the area - 0/10.”
