Nell Gwynne Review
One Gywenne, one out.
With a capacity of 20 (at a push) The Nell Gywenne is a real bijoux pub. Thankfully, on the night I went (Tuesday) it wasn’t up to its full capacity hence I’m calling it bijoux and not bleedin’ teeny.
Positioned just off The Strand it’s up an easy to miss alley just by the Costa Coffee. This small dark red room must be built like Mary Poppins carpet bag because within its four walls it’s managed to pack a jukebox, fruit machine, a fair bit of Victoriana, a TV screen, two friendly bar staff, ooh, and of course booze. There are ales on tap and half a Best will set you back £1.25.
At 7pm the clientele were mainly office workers, quite a few (like myself) sat by themselves reading a paper and watching Wimbledon on the telly. It strikes me as a nice spot to go solo to; low key, friendly, full of character it’s perfect for one in, one out drinking.

“Having stumbled across this pub from a day out in london, it could not of ended a fantastic day any better. It was worth waiting a couple of mins for a seat to get more comfortable. We had planned on moving on to a restaurant but lost track of time. Will definitely go back again.”

“One of the best pubs in central London. FACT. Nell Gwynne is tucked down a little alley between the Strand and Covent Garden. Superb jukebox (don't pay any cash - ask the barstaff and they will put more coins in if the music stops), and two well placed TVs for the football. Solid beers and very good staff. A place for a small group of you to catch up for a couple of drinks and enjoy some fantastic tunes. Definitely one to visit in the evening.”
