Heliot Steak House Review

Book a table at Heliot Steak House

Top 10 things you need to know about Heliot Steak House:

1) It’s hard to believe that The Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square is home to an award-winning steak house, but make your way past the burly bouncer at the door (who is actually very welcoming, unless you are under the age of 18) and you’ll find the rather fabulous Heliot Steak House.

2) If you’ve never been here before, there’s always someone on hand to show you where Heliot Steak House is located within the casino. However, if you look up, you’ll soon spot the restaurant on the next floor up, occupying a prime location overlooking the countless gaming tables of the casino floor.

3) Head to the Heliot Cocktail Bar next door to the restaurant first for a pre-meal drink or two and the chance to soak up the atmosphere of such a legendary location.

4) Heliot Steak House is a masculine looking affair, with sexy black and red leather and low lighting. Diners have a bird’s eye view from either of the two mezzanine levels.

5) Being a London steak restaurant, there’s no shortage of options as far as cuts of beef are concerned and this place certainly knows it stuff, serving the most divine 28-day aged USDA prime beef. It’s why you’re here, after all. If you’re hungry, opt for the large sirloin - 500g of utter melt-in-the-mouth deliciousness. There are plenty of sauces to choose from to accompany the meat and sides are reasonably priced.

6) Steak may be the obvious menu choice, but there’s plenty of alternatives on offer too. The lobster skewers are well worth deviating from the meat. They’re a little on the small side though, so order the lobster tails to accompany; full of meat and smothered in a tasty garlic and parsley butter.

7) The wine list serves up a wide choice for all kinds of budgets, so if you’ve had a heap of luck at the tables, you could be knocking back some rare Montrachet Grand Cru at £1000 a bottle to accompany your meal!

8) The gregarious owner of The Hippodrome Casino is often found doing the rounds, meeting and greeting his customers. He’s certainly got some fascinating stories to tell if you’re lucky enough to meet him.

9) Desserts come in at £6.50 each and are well worth saving a little room for, especially the theatrical little number that is the NY cheesecake. Not only does it taste divine with lashings of wild cherry sauce to sweeten up that palate, it adds a little fun to proceedings, presented atop a boat shaped box complete with smoking portholes. Cameras at the ready, this is pure Instagram fodder!

10) You’ve eaten to your heart’s content, but the night isn’t over yet. Even if you don’t fancy a flutter yourself, it’s almighty fun to watch others do so. Take a stroll upstairs and check out the high-end gaming where serious cash is spent, and wads of money are slapped on the table. If the gambling is all too much, the cabaret theatre is loads of fun with singers, comedians, bands and burlesque shows all keeping the rowdy, up-for-it crowd entertained.
