The Liquor Station Review

Top 10 things you need to know about The Liquor Station, Wembley:

1) Where did you say it was again?! Wembley. Yep, that place with the massive stadium and arena that people (unless they dwell in Wembley) only visit to see a match or gig? It’s a bit of an adventure but The Liquor Station is a good reason to head to VERY North West London. The late night cocktail bar and all day eatery was once the town’s post office until the mid-nineties when it became a pub.

2) A change of ownership in 2013 meant a big butterfly-emerging-from-a-chrysalis transformation in the food, drinks, decor and clientele.

3) Never judge a venue by its neighbours. The Liquor Station shares the High Road with the usual nightmare suspects: Maccy D’s, Paddy Power, Poundland and 99p store. It looks like a bleak and cheap place, but once you step inside The Liquor Station you’ve submerged yourself in a world of class, quirkiness and curiosities.

4) When it comes to cocktails, good things come to those who wait. Our mojito and cosmopolitan cocktails took some time to be made but when they arrived they were all jazzed up and adorned with sherbet sugar, curls upon curls of lemon peel and tropical fruit. It’s mixology art.

5) What’s more, you can make a pretty impressive dolphin drink decoration using half a banana and a coffee bean. Try it.

6) There is nothing small about The Liquor Station. The place is gargantuan, and the appetizers are bigger than the crockery they come on. The giant hot buffalo wings and heaped platter of calamari had us salivating and breaking into a cold sweat wondering how big the mains would be.

7) In fact, we believe a whole pig was sacrificed for our Louisiana style pork ribs in sticky sauce.

8) Garlic broccoli is friggin’ awesome. Fact. Order it as a side.

9) There’s a big thing for lampshades here. As well as objects from bygone eras such as balance scales and retro diner telephones. Play the ‘How Many Lampshades Can You Find’ game (what, you never heard of it?). Winner gets to eat Banana Flipper.

10) The ladies loo has a lion claw bath that’s actually a sink. This whimsical feature in the WC makes no sense but we love it, so much so that we spent two pennies on our visit.

“You need to change the big hero security guy very very rude.. I came to celebrate a birthday party planning to open a tab of 2000£.. Because your place was the only nice place in Wembley open.. And this guy has to learn a lot about ospitality.. I'm sorry to say this.. But this is not the right way to work.. I'm very disappointed.. ”
