The Selkirk Review

The legendary Frog & Forget Me…err, Thingie pub closed up shop, cocooned itself for a few months and emerged into the daylight as a beautiful metaphoric butterfly. Behold, The Selkirk.

Change:
- The “brand spanking” factor: No, not a bizarre fetish night involving the comedienne Jo Brand, but rather the feeling that the paint hasn’t even dried yet. It reeks of fumes, the floors are too shiny and the barstaff are even shinier.

- The food policy has also changed: the infamous Thai curries have gone to be disappointingly replaced with chicken and avocado that is quite simply…. just chicken and avocado!

However, five little words come to The Selkirk’s rescue: sofas, beer, garden, Kronenburg and Blanc. The latter is smoother than a James Hewitt chat up line. We like.

Asking “why haven’t I been here before?” is a bit like asking if Tony Blair wears slippers or sandals, it’s not really important. What is important is that you go there now.

“This is our local pub and its brilliant in winter, but especially in the outdoor area in summer - you can even play petanque there! The only thing is that we miss the nachoes with everything... bring back the chilli beef and guacamole!!”

“Over a year since someone wrote about this amazing pub - can't believe it. The team do a great job of making you feel welcome, with an amazing range of beers and spirits. The food is pretty awesome too, the roast on a sunday is magnificent and by far the best in south london. Can't wait for the summer to return so I can sit in Selkirk's walled garden enjoying the BBQ's If you haven't found this little gem yet then make an effort to get down there.”

“If you ever find yourself in Tooting, then this is the only decent pub to go to. It's a massive place with a great beer garden, but still feels really cosy and intimate. The bar staff are pretty friendly and the chefs create some top notch food, at a reasonable price! I was there on Sunday and had the roast. It was magic, I don't think I've ever had better roast potatoes (sorry Mum!). My mate who lives down the road from the pub says the quiz on a Thursday is a laugh and you can win beer and cash, sweet! I'd probably make the effort to go down to sunny Tooting again, just to frequent the Selkirk again and try some more grub. Oh, and see my mate.”

“Went there for a quiz last Thursday (10/6/04) and really enjoyed it. The beer garden was great for making the best of the weather, while the conservatory was good to get out the chill. Sofas looked comfy but it's a busy pub on a Thursday (apparently less busy other nights) so they were for the early birds. Thai food was great, really enjoyed that. For a young (not too young) crowd and informal atmosphere it's pretty faultless.”

“comfortable pub with beer garden, fantastic Thai food and quiz night on Thursdays. Also not frequented by old alkies- try JJ Moons for that!”

Hated

"Dreadful pub, run by people who have zero idea about hospitality or running a pub. Upon arrival we sat in the back garden that only had one other table occupied , when we tried to order off the lunch menu..." Which venue is this?
