Numnum Review
Top 10 things to know about Numnum:
1) The days of rude service and indecipherable menus are long gone at most Chinese restaurants in London thanks to the likes of trendy openings such as Numnum in Southwark. This area of London is increasingly drawing in the hipster crowd due to the opening of the latest branch of the Hoxton hotel.
2) Underneath a rail archway, eye-catching neon signage and spacious seating, this is another world to that of roast ducks dangling off meat hooks and fortune cookies.
3) There are no waiters here as such and the set-up is more like a takeaway venue. However, the service is top-notch when it comes to offering recommendations and bringing dishes over to your table.
4) You might encounter a stream of Deliveroo drivers, such is the popularity of their dishes, but that doesn't seem to affect the in-house service as food is served promptly from their ultra-efficient kitchen.
5) Variety is the spice of life and they do offer plenty of options above the stereotypical stir-fry from roasted dishes to noodle soups and wok-fried offerings. On top of this, there are many seasonal dishes such as a spicy, sesame beetroot carpaccio.
6) Their food is on the spicier end of the scale compared to most of the Cantonese restaurants that are prevalent in London with dried chillies in their kung pao chicken and green chillies in their curry roasted chicken.
7) Dumplings are attractively presented with different coloured-skins to represent the ingredients inside, such as green for the chive dumplings. They are hand-made from scratch and served with chilli oil and coriander.
8) Their signature dish is a bone marrow fried rice; no, it doesn't come across as a Chinese dish, but it is rich, indulgent and one of the most flavoursome fried rice dishes you will ever try.
9) Drinks are of the refreshing, soft variety rather than the alcoholic variety including iced fruit tea, famous Hong Kong soft drink vitasoy and chrysanthemum & lychee tea.
10) Perhaps with cheaper rent in Southwark, prices are extremely reasonable at Numnum with most dishes under £10 bar the half chicken sharing dishes. For a pocket-friendly Chinese offering, make sure you check out Numnum....read more
