Whyte & Brown Review
Whyte & Brown is featured in these Guides:
Top 10 things we discovered about Whyte & Brown restaurant when we visited:
1) Carnaby Street is not as swinging as it was in the Sixties, but it’s still a trendy hotspot where the after work media folk mingle with the tourist teens outside Libertys and American Apparel.
2) If you’re looking for a Soho restaurant at 7:30pm without having to book in advance, this is the place; for now. This will undoubtedly change over the next couple of months. We predict Whyte & Brown will be the new MeatLiquor or Polpo, only with a booking system. Yippee #NoMoreQueueing.
3) Chicks love chicks. Women diners outnumber the men considerably. Conclusion: women like the tender meat of chicken whilst men are still hunting for London’s red meat huts.
4) Super friendly staff: pleasant Poala and charming Chris make sure everyone is seated and happy with their surroundings. Paola gets straight to the point with cocktail orders. She is my new best friend.
5) A white wine Spritz will keep you going for the whole three courses.
6) You won’t be able to tear your eyes away from the feast on your plate, especially if you order the chicken and langoustine pie which features a grilled langoustine popping out of the puff pastry, poised as if about to reel off a Shakespearean monologue, or recreate that scene from Alien.
7) With wooden fittings and chrome accessories (light fixtures that look like upside down jelly moulds), the interior design is best described as South Tyrolean rustic farmhouse meets IKEA.
8) Everybody loves chicken; well, everyone apart from vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters that hate chicken. What I mean is, when a diner is in doubt, chicken is the go-to dish. But most of the dishes include chicken, so what should the suspicious supper guest or fussy eater go for? Answer: the brick chicken, a marinated breast roast-grilled under a brick with a 24 hour slow cooked thigh confit and a 12 hour slow cooked wing.
9) Whyte and Brown is a quirky name. Not too far away you can find the equally interesting named Mother Mash, Cha Cha Moon and Choccywoccydoodah.
10) No, we haven’t found an answer to the age old philosophical chicken-egg question: Does it really matter? One comes with the other at Whyte & Brown, which happens to serve them together rather splendidly. ...read more
