The Yard Bar Description

The Yard Bar is featured in these Guides:

The Yard is a well established mixed / gay bar in the heart of Soho. Attracting an older after work crowd the early part of the week and a more mixed crowd / age range from fridays and over the weekend. With DJ's from Fri - Sun playing different music each night the Yard is never boring. Add to that an extensive cocktail list and a light food menu served from 1pm as well as a relaxed upstairs bar - 'The Loft' and the open air courtyard which comes into its own in the summer the 'Yard and Loft Bar' really has something for everyone.

“Nice venue. Well kept. Problem is the bar staff are too busy talking to each other and see customers as a bit of an interruption.”

“I go to the yard most nights after work, its got such a relaxed atmosphere and attentive staff. i have got to know the manager there and he is very funny and charming. and from what i have seen he keeps his staff and customers very happy. i can see the managers reasons, as asking him just for red wine is a bit vague and if he is busy running the two floors he would be a little rushed, but thats my opinion.”

“I go here often as I like the atmosphere, last night there was not good as the guy who appeared to be the manager was very rude, the customer in front of me took a bit long to decide what to order and the manager was clearly very impatient, I then asked for red wine, he just looked at me and said, red what? I said again red wine, he looked even more annoyed now and said, what bottle, glass? He was really unpleasant. I really like the place and I have been going there ever since it opened years back. Shame this guy has to spoil it all!”

“I have been going to The Yard a lot lately, I forgot how much I liked it as it went through a real down patch over the last few years. Yeah so the new management threw some paint on the walls and made it pretty, but The Yard does what it says on the tin. It's a great open space with good quality drinks at fair prices...I do wonder though how they get all those gorgoes boys behind the bar though...wowo! So what if they know that they are beautiful...if you want ugly boys then go somewhere else...I vote for beautiful!”

“I have to say I have been coming to The Yard for years (about 10) - and I am pleased with the new decor, etc. However, I do agree with most of the comments. The Staff, OMG the Staff. They are absolutely ghastly. Very cultivated bodies but nothing (it seems) up there. It might well be that they are so badly paid that they cannot be bothered to smile a little or be nice to people. The drinks are sometimes overpriced (not as bad as The Edge, for instance) and the house wines should be reconsidered, as they are quite bad too. Now, it is one of the quietest, more pleasant venues in this Soho of ours, but I think they could gain a lot from reading what people have to say about them. True, it's our decision to go there and give them business, but at the end of the day, the New management (cutting edge bars) should be aware of the reason why the previous management did not work out. It is not just making the venue prettier anymore. Us queens do have standards too!”

“I have to say,on entering the premises i was nicely surprised by the decor leading into the The Yard/Loft. The ambiatic feeling followed through once upstairs in the Loft. This was quickly shot down down in flames when greeted (if that,s the word), by bar staff that looked as if they were asked to serve drinks at thier Grannies funeral!!! How rude and prissey they were, not just the one but all!! If they had spent the same amount of time on thier customer service skills (which were zilch), as thier appearance then i would consider a return visit!! What a shame!!!!”

“I come here a lot because it's one of the few places in the West End where you can get a nice lounge to stretch out on and the wine is generally OK in quality. That said, I have to say the bar staff are unfriendly and can be surly. Other newer staff try harder but they struggle to be competent . . . Prices have been reduced recently due to the recession, which makes the place slightly more affordable.”

“Interesting to note all the positive comments come from men and of course there is nothing wrong with that. I've had some great nights there with my men pals. However, it's only great if they will always go to the bar for you, cause if you're a woman you either won't get served by the bar staff or you'll get such attitude you'll wish you had of gone somewhere else. Note to bar staff Misogyny is such an unattractive trait..”

“This is the worst place I have ever been to! The staff are unhelpful and rude... I will never return and would never recommend it to anyone!”

“I've been to this bar a number of times over the course of about 10 years but I have to say that I don't think I'll be going again. Basically, if you're a woman, the bar staff aren't vaguely interested in serving you. Secondly, if you dare to ask for more ice, a slice of lemon, a larger glass, instead of accommodating your request with a cheery smile, the surly bar staff essentially throw it at you. Coupled with the fact that the same round came to two different prices on two different occasions (presumably I had to pay for the extra ice on the first occasion) and that if you're lucky enough to get change, it is presented to you on a silver tray thereby "encouraging" you to leave a tip (highly unlikely since I'm paying for ICE) I'm afraid that the whole experience has completely altered my view of the venue and I won't be returning. Oh, and one more thing. If you wanted something on draught, you could have anything you wanted as long as it was Grolsch. The Carling, Coors, Strongbow and Guiness were all off. On the plus side, all the other clientele in the venue were very pleasant, toilets were clean and good door security is provided.”

“Great place that is a little out of the way, makes everyone feel comfortable... mixed crowd of young, middle and older gay guys. Really comfortable atmosphere and great music. a little jammed packed when busy though on saturday night... but adds to the vibe...!!!;)”

“Quite small gay friendly bar, partly indoor and partly out, with heaters for the outside, at night can get a bit congested but the music and bar staff are very friendly and service is very good. has an upstairs area, downstairs below (all air conditioned) and sheltered outdoor area, quite nice for a quiet drink when not too busy.”
