The Slug & Lettuce Review

Much like any other S&L or All Bar One or Pitcher & Piano you've ever been to, this incarnation occupies a slightly peculiar site being bent round a small Cap Gemini office on the corner of Meard Street and Wardour Street.

Such a location does have it's benefits: you have the choice of two entrances/exits - very handy when your partner turns up with friends unannounced, whilst in the interests of improving office morale, you're pouring booze down a colleague's neck and trying to cop a feel.

You can drink comfortably in the company of the media type of Soho, providing you have a good grasp of foreign languages. When we called, no-one seemed to speak English or even understand what we were driving at when, in this order, we pointed at the 'table service 12-4' sign; our table; the menu and then our stomachs.

Eventually our Hot Chicken Tikka tortilla wraps arrived (5.95) and (after returning them twice to the kitchen for additions of the advertised accompanying condiments) they weren't half bad.

Despite it being one of the hottest days of the year, none of the six industrial sized fans were turning. The aircon did it's best to keep us cool whilst we lounged on the leather sofas surrounded by high wooden tables and cheap modern art.

In summary the place is large, caters mostly for those wishing to stand and talk about their most recent entry in Marketing Week and be challenged linguistically when being served.

When will places such as this learn that it is dam right rude to start clearing the table while people are still eating?

Loved

"My Gulascheintopf war perfekt and so was the Weissbier. I was in Kingston Steins. I do have a few suggestions for decor and table. 1. you need a little jar of toothpicks on the table to get meat out from..." Which venue is this?

Hated

"I visited browns alone after work and got convinced to spend an hour in the “VIP” room with Jennifer - which is just a corner of the private dance area - no privacy at all. I essentially paid £500 for..." Which venue is this?
