Shakespeare's Head Review
A pub that looks like it hasn’t made much effort in a while and to be fair it doesn’t need to with the position it’s in. On the infamous Carnaby Street and only minutes away from Oxford Circus, the Shakespeare’s Head is perfect for attracting the tourists looking for a bit of ‘English traditional drinking’. What they’ll find is a pub willing to take a lot of money of their hands for the privilege.
On the plus side there’s a lot of chairs and tables outside on Carnaby Street for you to watch more tourists walk by, though there’s a serious lack of seating inside. Staff are friendly. Entertainment wise there’s a jukebox offering a choice of classic pub tunes as well as fruit machines (stretching it now I know). The Shakespeare’s Head has a restaurant area upstairs with a capacity of about 50 that can be hired.
To sum up I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to visit The Shakespeare’s Head and even if I was in the area there are far better venues nearby to choose from – shame this is often the only ‘traditional’ side of English pubs tourists in London get to see.

“The Shakespeare may not be anything too special but I was in there on Saturday and it had a good atmosphere. Sat outside for a bit under the heaters - which kinda worked, then moved inside for some proper heat. Nicest thing about the place were the staff - when it came to last orders they actually gave you time to drink up and you didn't feel like you were being forced out - a refreshing change to most central London pubs. There was some crazy Brazilian gropu there as well - signing melodies! - nice change to the British chants you usually here coming from pubs at closing time.”
