Milk & Honey Review

Rule number one: you have to book ahead, no matter who you are. This ensures a totally democratic door policy in which celebrity carries no weight, and it also prevents overcrowding. The other rules set out a specific code of behaviour that harks back to a better age: men are not allowed to speak to women first ("It's a place you would go with people you already know," says Petraske), and name-dropping is prohibited ("If you eliminate from your crowd people who care what famous people do, already your crowd is much more interesting").

“An absolute gem. We took over the Games Room for an awesome little get-together last month. The staff were excellent at running drinks up to us all night, there's an inbuilt music system in the room, and some uber-plush sofas. Definitely recommended.”

“We went to Milk & Honey for my birthday last friday and i must say, i was quite impressed. I was cautious to the reception we would receive after reading the rules and rumours of the place but i was more than comfortable once entering. After being seated at our own booth, we tried multiple cocktails, each of which were fantastic, we even ordered the most unappealing cocktail on the menu which actually turned out to be our favourite. The waitress was friendly, even when one of us broke a glass, and the service was fast and smooth. This really isn't a bar to go to if you prefer the atmosphere of a busy bar with loud music and a goal for the evening. If you want to relax and have some tasty drinks with some friends and feel like you're in a different part of the world other than London, then Milk & Honey is really the place for you. I can't wait to go back.”

“This place is not trying to be like other bars so it's unfair to compare it to a typical Soho bar. So, if you're looking for a buzzy place with modern music where everyone is up for a laugh and you may have to raise your voice to chat, then there are plenty of more suitable places to go in the area (Amber on the same street for one). However, if you fancy having a quieter, relaxed evening savouring the finest quality drinks in a traditional private members club environment then this is the place. As someone else pointed out, each floor has a slightly different look and atmosphere. Personally, I think the Red Room gives the best experience as you get the most one-to-one attention from cocktail waiters who will talk you through everything they serve. So if you fancy a relaxed chat with a couple of friends over some cognac and cigars by the fireplace or a romantic evening sipping martinis with your fiance then go to Milk and Honey. If you're looking for something totally different to that, then Milk and Honey is not the kind of place to fit the bill.”

“I don''t get what all the fuss is about. It''s tiny, dingy and wanky. Don''t bother trying to find the "so cool it''s not even labelled" door. Go to one of the other nearby bars where people actually have personalities...”

“I really like this place. You need to book to get in, but this is not so that you can feel privilege in the sense "hey I've got a table I'm important" but so you can guarantee that you can sit down and relax unlike most of the pubs/bars within the area. You also need to understand how the different floors operate to get the atmosphere you want. The bottom floor is for large groups, the ground floor is for smaller groups and the top floor is mainly for couples, it’s a lot quieter in the red room. So depending on what you want that night depends on the floor. The cocktails are excellent, great value for money, the staff are friendly but at can be over worked if large groups have arrived, have you noticed how we seem to all go out around the same time?!! So at times the service can be slow but it’s worth it. Relax, don't go with the assumption you can click your fingers and get what you want - that's directed at you media wanna be''s. Ok, the food is not that great, it should stick to drinks, but then it’s really not set up to be somewhere were you can eat. so my 5/5 is directed at the cocktails. Try the ''Daisys'', they are fantastic”

“I dont understand these negative reviews, maybe you all went on one very bad night? I go to M&H regularly and only ever get really good service by friendly staff. The bar is not pretentious and is certainly not playing on being ''secret'' anymore. It was only ''secret'' in the first place so as not to attract the normal Heat reader crowd that can ruin many a great bar when it becomes the ''in place'' to go. Anyway it can hardly be secret after winning so many awards. Dont let negative review put you off going to a great bar, which serves brilliant drinks, he has been voted Londons best bar and deservedly so in my opinion.”

“Absolutely awfull - i have no idea how this dirty, dingy cellar is supposed to be the best bar in London. The management were so so rude- the rudest i have ever encountered in London. There is no atmosphere- just dull and boring. The whole ''book ahead'' and ''secret unmarked entrance'' is so far up it''s own ****, that''s its a joke. I would not recommend this place to anyone- not even to go and see just how bad it is... you''ll get a much better night out and loads more fun in the old mans pub next door.”

“Yes - same experience. Nasty attitudes from management... Poor food. No booking. Just save your money and go somewhere else.... Membership is easy to get despite the hype - there are no celebrities there not to talk about! Its become a dingy basment run by people who watch too much violent telly. 30''s Speakeasy is only the theme guys - don''t take it too far with the behaviour!”

“This place has lost it...... the staff have veered from the arrogant to the vicious. Membership revoked if you complain - food pitiful - staff in terror of managers The aim of a quiet classy joint has now turned into a hateful basement of pseuds run by escaped lifers. Avoid, avoid, avoid”

“The best bar in London hands down, from the cocktails, charming barmen and the slick management. I love this place. ”

“Quite simply the best bar in London. Fabulous drinks, courteous, intelligent staff, ambient music (mainly blues), cool "speak-easy" decor and the comfiest chairs (in the Red Room, at least) of any bar I've ever visited. But. It's a bar for grown-ups. That's a selling point to me but if you go to bars to get drunk and shrieking, pick up members of the opposite (or same) sex or regale the room with not-so-sotto-voce conversations about that deal you've done or how you once snogged the sister of Madonna's manicurist then it's not for you. Thank God. ”

“M & H has had some problems in the past with the hostesses and door staff although they have addressed this and have employed some great new staff. M & H is not like any other bar in London. The cocktails are the best in London, they only use the best ingredients and juices they can squeeze themselves; hence no cranberry or coke. The bar staff are great and knowledgeable and if you open yourself up to M & H you will have a great time. There is no dance floor, no DJ and the place isnt packed, thats what makes it special, come here if your other half or close friends and enjoy socialising with each other, that is what M & H is all about. There is no pretentions and it doesnt matter who you are. A superb bar.”

“Being a member of Milk and Honey I may be biased, but I joined for a reason. I think this place is one of a kind wonderful. The drinks are impeccable, service is definitely not in your face, but polite and curteous. The atmosphere is relaxing and conducive to enjoying the food and drink infront of you. The only reason you could have a bad time is if you behave like an ignorant pig. Everyone is equal in the land of milk and honey, and if you share a table you might meet some incredible people, so stop complaining greg.”

“I agree with Greg! I went along to try Milk and Honey with some friends to see what it was like as we were considering joining, but the staff were really rude and made us feel very un-welcome. I just felt it was really short sighted and unprofessional of them to treat potential members like that. I wouldn’t become a member if they paid me.”

“This place stinks. They took my reservation on the phone fine - called two days later and told us they had made an error and moved us. On the night we arrived to be told immediately that they had double booked the table and that we would have to free the table at 8pm for a member. No apologies nothing. Avoid this place like the plague”

“Just joined this great bar in Soho. A great place, that harks back to the prohibition era of the 1930's in the US. Dark lighting and tin walls gives this place a fantastic atmosphere. The smooth jazz music is great and the coktails are even better - at last, a place that actually makes cocktails how they are supposed to be made. If you can, get invited - you'll have a great night out.”
