Bunnychow Review
Bunnychow is featured in these Guides:
Top 10 things you need to know about Bunnychow restaurant in Soho:
1) What do bunnies like to chow on? In the grand scheme of things, it isn't the most pressing world issue at the moment but with Easter just around the corner [at time of writing], it's something that will no doubt occupy people's minds. Is it carrots or is it chocolate eggs?
2) It would appear the clever bunnies enjoy hollowed out bread filled to the brim with hearty ingredients, from curries to a full English breakfast. For a change, it's street food that is actually filling without putting you out of pocket: it's typically £4-5.
3) The pork version is filled with extremely tender meat slow-cooked for 8 hours with a fiery piri piri sauce providing a flavoursome kick. The Durban, which comes complete with a mutton curry, raita and mango chutney rivals the best of any curry houses on Brick Lane.
4) With the right price, food and beverage, we were very happy bunnies. They have a fine selection of innovative ready-made cocktails. If classic tea is too mundane, try their Green Mamba: Peppermint & Earl Grey tea with lemon juice, topped with the spirit of your choice.
5) For the hungry bunnies out there, make a meal of your visit by trying their sides and snacks with exotic sounding options like monkey gland wings and chilli biltong.
6) Bunnychow is a marvellous creation from Durban in South Africa. Yes, the country that gave us Nelson Mandela, and countless great rugby and cricket teams have reinvented how we eat our loaf of bread.
7) The origin of the name is less whimsical than I suggest. The food was popular amongst the Banias Indian community working on the sugar plantations in the 1940s. The Chinese community also there liked to refer to their food as chow. Pretty soon it transformed from Banias chow to Bunny chow.
8) They understand that taking apart one of these creations is a messy affair, hence they have their own dry cleaning company should operation digestion go horribly awry.
9) If people-watching is your thing, this is the ideal location being based on Wardour Street Soho, to observe all the media types hopping around sealing their deals.
10) It's already won numerous awards, so look out for Bunnychow reproducing at a rapid rate on the London street food scene soon....read more
