Barrio Soho Review

Book a table at Barrio Soho

Top 10 things you need to know about Barrio Soho bar:

1) For some reason, by the time Friday comes around, we no longer care about what to eat or drink. Nor do we care where we do it. We stumble away from our 9-to-5s, bleary-eyed and work-worn, to the nearest sanctuary that’ll help us come alive, even if it’s not very good.

2) If, however, you find yourself near Barrio Soho on Poland Street on a Friday night, prepare to have your sense of taste awoken in time for the weekend.

3) If it isn’t the music leaking out from under the door, enticing your shoulders to bounce with vigorous Latin rhythms, it’ll be the scene of happy people eating scrumptious Latin-Caribbean food. They’ve already shrugged off the working week. Time for you to do the same.

4) When you walk in, you’ll instantly know what makes this place special: it’s merry, joyous, and full of easy-going, friendly punters and staff. It’s not brightly lit so there’s a touch of intimacy to add on top. After work date: covered. Cocktail meet up: sorted.

5) Sit down and then order cocktails. The Wonkey Donkey will knock you on your ass if you’re standing! Why not also down the rum, coconut and pineapple Gingerbread Colada?

6) Now: food. You should know that Barrio provides standard Latino dishes but much better than knockoffs you find in sad restaurants and pub chains.

7) The calamares are fantastically crunchy, light, and not at all greasy; superb. Ram them down with corn fritters; cheesy and fried but not oily. See, you’re already forgetting about Monday and Tuesday.

8) Attack the juicy, spicy lamb chilli taco before going onto the fruit and summery ancho chicken tacos. Let the juices run down your face and hands as you start to feel normal again. Wednesday is a distant memory, as is all that drama at the water cooler.

9) If you still feel like you could fill up some space, order the heart-stoppingly cheesy queso queso nachos. No microwave cheddar cheese here. It’s gooey and oozy and everything nachos should be.

10) By now, Thursday - that was yesterday, right? - is nearly gone from your mind and you’re truly yourself again. Might as well order more drinks and celebrate for the next few days, seeing as you’re a free agent. No paperwork. No emails. Just simple fun.

“Looked for somewhere that appealed to my lady and me for a little late night hospitality. Fancied a cocktail with some Latin Rythms. Had the cocktails. Reasonably priced and excellant. Watch that "Wonkey Donkey" it REALLY has a kick!! Sadly the latin rythms were missing. Thumping drum N Bass! After 20 mins my lady described it as "...like having someone stand next to you hitting you on the head with a hammer!" Just sad that it dissapointed by not providing what it advertised. However, will still go back for a Donkey!”

“I was very pleased with Barrio and have been recommending it to all my friends since! Booked for my birthday and everything went swimmingly from the first request I've sent - no question or request was too much hassle for Barrio's team. I loved the deco, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, not to mention yummy cocktails we couldn't get enough of. It was my first visit, but definitively not the last and I'm keen on trying other branches as well. DJ/music got us dancing very fast - both downstairs and in booked area. I was really happy with reserving the Porch as not too loud and plenty of light - good for catching up and dancing later on. My only complaint will be that Barrio is not open longer than 1 am!”

“Barrio Central is my favourite bar in London. I had my birthday drinks there last summer and we also held our engagement drinks there in March this year. Both nights were lots of fun and the Barrio staff couldn't have been more helpful - they gave us tips as to which part of the bar would suit us best, and, for our engagement drinks, they even very kindly threw in a bottle of bubbles to help us celebrate our news. I'm sure we'll be back again soon!”

“We came across this bar by chance and so pleased we did! We booked an area for a party and the staff were really helpful in making sure everything was organised for this, and indeed the evening went smoothly. We had a lovely lady looking after us on the night and despite the bar being very busy she was attentive (without being annoyin) and everything was brought over quickly! The cocktails were generous and delicious, the music was fun (and not so loud you couldn't hear yourself think) and there was just a great atmosphere! Thanks Barrio for a great night!”

“What a cool little venue. I like what they've done with the place. Very colourful, very inventive. The cocktail and beer menu is great too, covering all areas of the World nearly. It has a very Caribbean/South American vibe to it. And there are lots of hot girls there too. Definitely go back.”

“I just discovered Barrio Central last week and wish I'd found it earlier! The atmosphere is so friendly and the drinks are superb - not overpriced like so many London bars. It was quite busy by the end of the evening, so go early to get a seat - although most probably you'll want to be dancing anyway!”

Food

Our food menu takes all things Latin and stops off a few times in the tropical Caribbean. From pinchos and small plates, to lunches and glorious platters; all dishes cooked from fresh ingredients, with a respect for authentic recipes but with our own added twists and flourishes.

Drinks

Globe trotting beers, new world wines, cocktails from all corners and spirits from across the seas… our drinks menu is organised by regions and our bar tenders excel in giving you a guided tour.

We’re naturally heavy on the rums and premium tequilas and hold regular tasting sessions to show off our ever growing collection.

Our signature cocktail, The Zombie, is a sharing cocktail served in a custom hand-made ceramic mug in the form of a Luchador's (Mexican wrestling) mask - a must have!
