“I’ve been to Philadelphia in the US. I’ve tasted an authentic Philly Steak with Cheese. I’ve been to The Diner in Shoreditch and eaten what they claim was a Philly Steak with Cheese. It was not even close. Firstly, it came in a baguette. And the cheese was just thrown on top, not melted right through to the core. And the cheese fries - oh dear! The staff here are overworked and the queue out the door is testament to that (as are the state of the toilets). I did enjoy the tunes, however, and I felt at home amongst the bohemian crowd, even if they didn’t realise they were being cheated of authenticity.”

“Bar none, the Diner Shoreditch is the Worst service I have had at any restaurant anywhere in my life! We went there for brunch in late June 2009. The waitresses failed to place our order and other tables correctly and then argued with the chefs loudly about this. They then blamed us the customers for their mistakes and there was no apology whatsoever for my order that was never placed and I waited over 45 mins for, not to mention failure to bring other orders in any kind of timely fashion. After I said I would not pay for the meal I waited so long for and we did not leave a tip, we were given the most sneering of looks from the waitresses as we left. I was so fuming I went back in and told them how incredibly rude I thought they were and that tips are earned...just like frustrated reviews like this.”

“We've been here a few times now and always thoroughly enjoyed the food we've had.
As someone previous has said - the milkshakes are to die for - especially the chocolate one!!!!!!
There is a wide range of different foods so a good choice for all to be had.”

“I went to The Diner with a friend on Friday evening. Despite it being busy we were seated within about 15 minutes which was a relief. Our order was taken quickly and our food arrived in good time although at no time did we feel our experience was rushed. I can heartily recommend the hard milkshakes - delicious!”

“Very slow service - waited 20mins to be seated despite empty tables, food order was forgotton about and we waited 45 mins before having to ask for it. When the food arrived it was very average.”

“I found this place shocking. I went with my girlfriend and was both nursing hangovers and wanted a carefree and smooth experience.
We waited for about 20 minutes to be seated whilst their were tables free but the staff hadn't even bothered to clean the tables. We eventually got a table but had to wait whilst the waiter cleaned it whilst we were sitting at the table.
Eventually we got served by a waitress who I can only describe as "in her own world" she took our order and we waited, and waited and waited, 3 tables around us had changed so covers. 50 minutes later we asked another waitress about our order and she enquired with the original waitress about the order? It hadn't been placed and our new waitress has to take over (what really annoyed us was the original waitress had knew she had made a mistake but didn't even bother apologising, she just let her friend takeover and then dodge us the for the time we spent their).
When the food eventually came it was below average and the chips were cold.
If you really want to wait nearly an hour for your food and have rude staff completely ignore you then go to this restaurant, otherwise stay well clear.”

Food
The Diner Shoreditch is open for breakfast, but don’t think that means you have to get up early to eat it; it’s available all day. They also do a mean brunch, unrivalled burgers and hot dogs, and if you’re in the mood, allow you to cross the border to Mexico; not an option for the faint of palette…

Drinks
Any diner is incomplete without a full selection of those classic milk and maltshakes, and you will not find that we disappoint on that score. While these are highly recommended for the full US experience – metaphorically and physically - if you’re not going for a full blow-out, they can also offer a full range of wines, beers and cocktails.
