Hache Review
Top 10 things we learnt the Haché restaurant in Shoreditch:
1) The word Haché doesn’t instantly signify what this London-based restaurant group is known for – at least not in the same way Gourmet Burger Kitchen or Honest Burger or even MEATliquor does - but while it may not be a case of burger by name, it certainly is a case of burger by nature.
2) Unless you’re French, and then the word translates to ‘minced’, but as I can only count to three in French my awareness of this was non-existent until now.
3) There are four London restaurants, in Shoreditch, Camden, Chelsea and Clapham. It’s almost as though Haché have a thing about places beginning with C. Camberwell, watch out.
4) The Shoreditch restaurant is where we spent the evening, rubbing shoulders with the cool cats of Curtain Road.
5) The inside is a bit what I imagine a church-themed strip club to be like: lots of brick-framed stained glass arches, depicting angels; white-washed walls; 3D plastic angel wings protruding from the walls; chandeliers; ivy.
6) The menu is all about burgers, a far from shocking revelation.
7) A friendly tip: avoid the entrées. Not because they’re awful but just because they’re a bit ‘meh’. The nachos were nothing special; you can probably get something similar in quality at your local Odeon.
8) There’s a vast selection of burgers, with sections covering fish, veggie, lamb, chicken, duck, pork and, of course, beef. We were offered a choice of bun; opt for soft ciabatta over brioche if you want our tried and tested opinion. Both the steak Sicilian with parma ham and mozzarella, and the Moroccan lamb burger were good but not worth of a list of superlatives.
9) Now dessert is where the action is at. All homemade in-house, the choice is small but the taste is huge. The banoffee pie came with two spoons and was finished with relish – it’s rich but worth saving space for.
10) Haché is the kind of place we’d advise popping in to for a quick bite if you’re passing one of the London restaurants (you’re likely to be in an area beginnig with C), but it’s probably not worth actively seeking out. Not necessarily a bad thing, if they keep expanding, chances are you’ll pass one with regularity. ...read more
