Enoteca Pomaio Review

Top 10 things you need to know about Enoteca Pomaio:

1)  What’s the secret to being one of the best singers in the world, like Andrea Bocelli? It might have something to do with his Tuscan heritage; living a slower pace of life in a poetic, timeless landscape, with an appreciation of fine food and wines.

2)  You will find all of the above, plus great Tuscan hospitality, at Enoteca Pomaio on Brick Lane. The owners of this Shoreditch restaurant run their own craft winery and farm in Tuscany, bringing a taste of the Italian countryside to the streets of East London.

3)  It's a pared-down, rustic look in terms of the decor. Much like Bocelli, there is nothing showy at Enoteca Pomaio, aside from the occasional artistic display. The food (talent) speaks for itself.

4)  For you to really appreciate the quality of the produce, there is no better way than ordering the craft cheese and charcuterie platter. Cheese has been aged from 45 days to 12 months, whilst the premium Italian meats have supreme marbling.

5)  Even the condiments play a starring role here: the olive oil and the honey are produced on their farm in Italy and you can purchase them from the restaurant to take home with you.

6)  You need a hearty meal to achieve a hearty voice. The rustic, filling performances here include the wild boar stew and polenta, and the octopus with spinach and sour potatoes.

7)  Tuscan touches are evident throughout the menu and none more so than in the desserts with classic panforte served with chocolate mousse, biscotti and their cheesecake cream.

8)  If you want to possess the voice of an angel, consider drinking the next big thing in the wine world: orange wines. The Carlo Tanganelli Anatraso Bianco Di Toscana is filled with fruity notes, like golden raspberries and cherries; a wine that is versatile and well-balanced.

9)  Unfortunately, the main dining space is poorly designed. Acoustically, once the restaurant fills with diners, the noise of chatter reverberates around the walls. It isn't the ideal place for discussing intimate life issues.

10) You might not always be able to afford a trip to Tuscany (with the post-Brexit falling pound), but the wallet-friendly prices here will make your Italian feast go far.
