Green Man - Youngs Description
Book a table at Green Man - Youngs
Dating back to somewhere around 1700, the Green Man on Putney Heath stands on an old duelling spot. The pub was often the refuge for the contestants after the battles. Putney Heath is also notorious for its history of Highwayman, rumour has it that Dick Turpin once stashed his guns in the upstairs room. Other robbers supposedly watched their intended victims taking refreshment in the pub before going after them once they resumed their journey across the heath.
But there's no danger of any highwaymen these days, just a cosy welcoming pub with a great garden, fabulous beers and a scrumptious menu. The team look forward to seeing you very soon!

“The Green Man has recently changed hands - unfortunately for the worse. The new landlady appears reasonably on the ball but her husband got into the gene pool while the lifeguard wasn't looking - frankly, this man would be out of his depth in a car park puddle (as indeed would some of the bar staff). While it may be easy to ignore the odd jarring note, it seems difficult to ignore the rapid decline of the food, the doing away with a promising line up of local musical talent twice a week and a pub quiz that makes counting sheep seem like a dangerous sport.
This is lowest common denominator pub running at its nadir.”

“The Green Man has been rebuilt over the three months to December. It has improved almost out of recognition - it used to be a small, very friendly but basically tired pub stuck in the 70s. Now it is a decent size, muich more comfortable and has a good menu but hasn't lost its friendliness. Even better is that you can now get to the toilets without going outside! Really good for weekend brunch/lunch or a few post work beers & food if you can't be bothered to ring for a curry or microwave the M&S ready meal after a long day. Traditional rather than trendy and a client base more thirty plus than pubescent. Certainly worth a visit!
