Top 10 things to know about KuPP:
1) Sunday morning and the hangover from hell has your bedroom spinning. You need to get out of bed, you naughty rascal. Throw back those curtains, and carpe that diem! Fresh air, hearty food and hair-of-the-dog await.
2) KuPP bar and restaurant, adjacent to the rippling waters of Paddington Basin, has the right ingredients to be your early afternoon saviour. Dine al fresco and bask in the sun’s warming embrace, or graze on brunch amongst the students, hipsters, and laptop freelancers inside.
3) The expansive warehouse style possesses the sort of Scandinavian chic that will appease your bloodshot eyes; duck egg blue lampshades; shelves of succulents; and natural light spilling in through floor-to-ceiling windows. Yes, there is life in you yet.
4) Smoked, pickled and cured are possibly highlights from your last 12 hours, but also the keywords that jump off the restaurant’s Scandinavian-biased menu. The essential piece of salvation here is the phrase “Bottomless Smorgasbord Weekend Brunch”: 90 minutes within which you can devour four different varieties of Norwegian joy.
5) Plus, you can neck your body weight in Bloody Mary’s! Although, top tip: order the pilsner from the silver tanks behind the bar instead. It’s sharper and boozier, thus ensuring calmer metaphorically waters (in your pounding head) than those of the canal outside.
6) This brunch is strictly timed, so the ambitious gannets amongst you will want to arrive ravenous, chat infrequently, eat quickly, and drink like you’re about to be marooned at sea.
7) Target the fiske and veggie bords first, and don’t leave until you’ve sampled beetroot gravadlax; baked quinoa, kale and butternut bites; Atlantic prawn Skagen; tarragon and wild mushroom tartlets; Västerbotten cheese; and simple rye bread topped with devilish chilli lemon and goats curd dip.
8) For those of you of the parental persuasion, this is also a top restaurant for a weekend family day out. Nearby there’s the Paddington Bear shop, the puppet theatre barge in Little Venice, and Active360 canoe hire. Plus, kids eat for free (*fist-pump) and placemats are provided for the kids, or you, to colour in. Maybe there is a God.
9) Beyond brunch lies normality: an all-day menu - meatballs, lobster, elk hotpot - and breakfast - spicy poached eggs, cardamon pancakes, and home-smoked trout with crushed avocado.
10) Emancipate yourself from the full English breakfast experience! Go Scandinavian this weekend (and no, not IKEA!)....read more
