Hamilton's Cafe Review

Top 10 things I learnt about Hamilton's cafe when I visited:

1) It’s important, in life, to know what you are. Hamilton's Café did not feel like it really knew what it wanted to be. Was it a café, was it a restaurant, was it cheap and cheerful, was it aspirational?

2) Small girls would love it. Someone was allowed to go nuts with pink paint and ornate mirrors when decorating Hamilton's. It feels like the boudoir of Minnie Mouse. As a girl who is not opposed to pink, I rather liked it. Luckily no one has told any small girls about Hamilton’s cafe yet so the diners were, in fact, grown-ups, both locals and tourists.

3) Lots of food keeps people happy. The portions were big. I felt full. Ergo, I was happy.

4) It’s fine to stick to old favourites. The menu was standard café fare; jacket potatoes, pasta and random British essentials, such as steak and chicken curry.

5) Diners tend to know how much food costs. Ingredient quality and preparation difficulty should be reflected in the price tag. The menu at Hamilton’s was a bit hit and miss with pricing, with jacket potatoes at around the same price as fish and chips.

6) However, prime location does not always mean prime prices. Hamilton’s is in the suburb of Mayfair - the most expensive square on your Monopoly board, and where I will shop when I win the lottery - however, Hamilton’s can feed you up without causing debt and penury, which is useful to know if you get tired trying on all those diamond necklaces and need to fuel up.

7) The service is friendly and the atmosphere unpretentious; the opposite of which I find can be a bit of an issue when eating in the more prosperous parts of town. No one wants to be judged by fellow diners when tucking enthusiastically into a plate of something messy.

8) The food in Hamilton’s is unexceptional. I wasn’t bowled over, but for cheap food in Mayfair, you wouldn’t expect to be.

9) The café is quiet in the evenings but busy in the day. A nice place to put your feet up after shopping.

10) All in all, Hamilton's should be happy with what it is: a cafe in the centre of London, where you can fill yourself up for under a tenner and have a cheeky beer thrown in for the evening.

“This is such a gem of a restaurant, great food, wonderful location, and fantastic service! We had a Caprese Salad to start which was delicious, not too dressed up and let the fresh ingredients do the talking. I cannot recommend the Linguine Vongole (clams) enough, this is one of my favourite dishes and I’ve had a lot of different ones, but Hamilton’s is one of the best! Hamilton’s also has excellent Coffee and a good selection of beers – the Extra Blond (on draught) comes highly recommended. Overall a amazing food and a great place for dinner (they do breakfast and lunch too which I intend on trying), and superb value!”

"Hi guys, I come here with my friends and have very good time. I like your place very much and is very good times. I come back when I can soon. Thank you very much." Which venue is this?

Hated

"Dreadful pub, run by people who have zero idea about hospitality or running a pub. Upon arrival we sat in the back garden that only had one other table occupied , when we tried to order off the lunch menu..." Which venue is this?
