Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote Description

Le Relais de Venise l'entrecôte opened in September 2005 in London's trendy Marylebone. An exact replica of its counterpart in Paris, Le Relais de Venise l'entrecôte has transplanted the most famous brasserie in Paris directly into the heart of London.

Founded 46 years ago in Paris by wine grower M. Gineste de Saurs, whose daughter Mme. Godillot now owns and runs the restaurant, Le Relais de Venise 'L'Entrecôte' centres around one very simple menu – a starter of a green salad with walnuts, followed by trimmed sirloin steak and chips with it's famous sauce and to finish, a selection of desserts.

The most famous aspect of Le Relais de Venise 'L'Entrecôte's' reputation is the secret sauce – a recipe that has been in the family for many years. Very few people know the sauce's ingredients, making it one of Parisian cuisine's closest guarded secrets. Despite many efforts by various competitors to rival the secret sauce, none have succeeded, making Le Relais de Venise l'entrecôte a true original.

With such a simple menu, the key to Le Relais de Venise l'entrecôte's success is the quality of the ingredients. Following six months of intense research the very best suppliers in London have been sourced, including the renowned Donald Russell, supplier to the Queen, who will supply the restaurant with its beef. Desserts in the Paris branch are sourced from the best patisserie in the city, which will also supply the London restaurant. Despite the simple starter and main course, diners will be able to indulge in the gastronomic delights of Le Vacherin du Relais (a towering mound of meringue, ice cream and chocolate sauce) and classic Profiterolles au Chocolat.

In order to ensure Le Relais de Venise l'entrecôte London is as genuine as its Parisian sister, every aspect of the Paris venue is mirrored in the London branch. It boasts a classic French brasserie interior, with banquette seating, wooden tables covered with the classic white paper cloths, mirrored walls and low lighting. Diners are not able to make reservations, a policy that results in long but passive queues of diners waiting to dine at Le Relais de Venise l’entrecôte in Paris. Even the chips – which are all hand-made on-site – have been measured to the last millimetre to guarantee authenticity.

“If I could score minus 10 out of 5 then I would for this disgraceful restaurant. I can safely say this is the worst experience I have ever had of customer service in a restaurant. The waitress was sullen with a moody pout. When we asked if one steak could be cooked well done the answer was ‘no’ without any attempt to elaborate or explain the logic. When we asked for butter to eat with our bread the answer was ‘we don’t do butter’. So much for the concept of the customer always being right and ordering food they actually want to eat. This is the most pretentious and self-absorbed place I have ever eaten in where the chef and staff choose to follow a pathetic line that the French only cook their steak medium or rare when in France itself they will happily cook a steak anyway you would like it. In fact this restaurant does a disservice to the French. There is no menu and no choice of food you are just told what to eat. Do not go here no matter what people tell you!”
