Pachamama Review

Top 10 things to know about Pachamama:

1) Have you ever wondered what a Peruvian restaurant in London smells like? The answer is new. Walk down the stairs that lead to the Pachamama restaurant and you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve entered a Wicks store.

2) But as soon as you’re directed to your seat by young, friendly staff, the air is filled with the sights, sounds and smells of a future hit restaurant.

3) When it comes to drinks at Pachamama, anything goes. If you want to go traditional, opt for a Pisco Sour. If you want to go off the beaten Inca trail, order an Eau de Lima or Pinamama. The cocktail list is full of delicious concoctions, but they do pack a Peruvian punch that’ll have you pulling a sourpuss face.

4) Fellow diners are a hotchpotch – which is usually the case in a new Central London restaurant. The list includes groups of friends meeting after work for a reunion; creative/media folk in checked shirts (the guys) and fox print dresses (the girls); and suits from the City power dining with colleagues while their glossy WAGS sit on the side sipping cocktails and making extreme sourpuss faces. Anyone who is (and isn’t) anyone can be found here.

5) The dining concept of Pachamma is…wait for it…sharing. Yep, this isn’t really an ‘every man eat for themselves’ kind of place, which is rather nice...

6) ...because the sharing style menu encourages you to try something new, like veal heart anticuchos from the robata grill with a side of purple potatoes. Even the relishes can be a novelty. (N.B. In the case of my +1, it was the first time he tried a radish. And I consumed my first dragon fruit).

7) The menu purely serves Peruvian dishes that combine native and British ingredients. The sea bass is Cornish and the Old Spot ribs are from Gloucester.

8) Sweet dreams are made of meat from Pachamama. The Peruvians know how to cook the stuff. The veal hearts are tender and the ribs are fall-off-the-bone perfect. Not a pick of meat returns to the kitchen.

9) If you’re suffering from a cold, the celeriac puree on the veal hearts will clear your sinuses immediately. It’s got kick.

10) Tiger milk, or leche de tigre as it’s known in Peru, is seen as an aphrodisiac. Just FYI (wink).

"My Gulascheintopf war perfekt and so was the Weissbier. I was in Kingston Steins. I do have a few suggestions for decor and table. 1. you need a little jar of toothpicks on the table to get meat out from..." Which venue is this?

"I visited browns alone after work and got convinced to spend an hour in the “VIP” room with Jennifer - which is just a corner of the private dance area - no privacy at all. I essentially paid £500 for..." Which venue is this?
