Top 10 things to know about Ooty Station:

1) For those times when you might not be able to afford a trip to incredible India, or dinner at the best Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Ooty Station near Baker Street can offer you a taste of both.

2) With plush purple leather chairs, ornates lamps, gilded frames, and walls filled with retro posters of famous spirit brands, the restaurant aims to transport you to the opulent period of the Raj.

3) Although Ooty Station is the more casual sister restaurant and bar of Ooty, their premier offering nearby, this is the type of venue where you can let your hair down and watch the latest cricket match over a bottle of Kingfisher beer.

4) The Indian menu might say bar bites and bar bowls but the head chef is none other than Manmeet Singh-Bali who won a Michelin star at Vineet Bhatia. The casual food here comes with fine dining execution.

5) The lamb slider has an undeniable warmth due to the clove-smoked meat accompanied by a cute chilli pipette, so you determine your level of spiciness. The size might be petite, but your rupees are going into quality rather than quantity.

6) The kitchen team likes to show that Indian cuisine isn't all about fire and spice, and that their food is considerably more multifaceted, as the sweet and sour flavours of the lime and tomato prawns with mini idli demonstrate.

7) Another must-order dish is their lime and curry leaf lamb dosa; they've managed to convert a street food classic to a creation that can effortlessly grace a fine dining restaurant. The finely minced lamb meat has distinctive herbal and citrusy notes courtesy of the curry leaves.

8) In keeping with the Raj theme, western classic cocktails get a distinctively Indian twist in their execution. An old-fashioned cocktail is created with Amrut Indian single malt and paired with mango vermouth and dates.

9) Desserts, however, need more work to blend in the East meets West style. The only recognisable dessert with any hint of the sub-continent is kulfi of the day, otherwise it is just chocolate torte or ice cream of the day.

10) Prices at sister restaurant, Ooty, are potentially 2-3 times more than at Ooty Station, so this is a great way to sample the Michelin-star life with a much lighter budget....read more
