Ergon Review

Ergon is featured in these Guides:

Top 10 things we learned about Ergon restaurant:

1) It is a Greek deli and restaurant nestled between the food quarter of St. Christopher’s Place and Selfridges near Oxford Street.

2) Greeks don’t do rigid dining - i.e. starter, main and dessert. Every dish is made for sharing. So, those of you who aren’t of the sharing disposition: walk on by.

3) The unusual method of ordering at Ergon is to select a few dips and bites, a couple of meat and fish dishes, some salads and so on, until you crave the sweet stuff.

4) It’s not just moussaka and feta cheese that the Greeks have to offer. In fact, there are several cheese bites and creamy dishes to choose from such as gruyere cheese from Naxos rolled in carob flour, oat flakes, poppy seeds and rose petals in syrup. We believe the Staka cream from Chania with poached eggs has the ambrosia-like taste and consistency of the food of the Gods.

5) Portions aren’t too big, nor are they too small. They are just right. In other words, if Baby Bear came to London, he’d have supper at Ergon.

6) Ergon opened at the end of 2013, but it’s gained a reputation as being one of THE top places in London to dine on lamb. The 12-hour slow cooked lemon lamb is succulent and falls off the bone even with the most feather-light of touches from a knife.

7) There’s an all Greek wine and spirit list (glass of ouzo anyone?)

8) Fava beans served with “a nice chianti” may have been one of Hannibal Lecter’s favourite dishes, but we prefer them pureed with cured pork and served with a refreshing mojios cocktail – Mastiha liqueur, basil, lemon and crushed ice…f-f-f-f-f.

9) If you haven’t booked a table for dinner, you might find yourself waiting for a seat. Ergon is stylish but small, and serves as a home away from home for London-living Greeks pining for the delicious food of their homeland.

10) Delve down to the basement on your way to the loo and you’ll find a deli full of glorious Greek artisan products such as lentils, jarred olives and those famous fava beans. You’ve eaten like a Greek, now go home and cook like a Greek. Yamas!

“Best food I have had in a long time. The owner and waiters provide a great service. But nevermind great service - I would eat their delicious food even if they threw it at me :) Five stars, and counting.”
