The Coal Shed Review

Top 10 things to know about The Coal Shed:

1)  The old adage “sharing is caring” might be tested to the extreme when you visit the delectable London steakhouse restaurant, The Coal Shed, which has a sharing-friendly menu.

2)  Location is everything and The Coal Shed has it all: it's situated amongst very expensive designer apartments for affluent Londoners; the restaurant’s close proximity to Tower Bridge makes it a worthy booking choice for tourists; and there are plenty of offices nearby at City Hall and More London for the white-collar workers.

3)  However, there is nothing snooty about The Coal Shed. Staff are as down-to-earth and personable as they come. From wine recommendations to match the food to being non-judgemental when your guest dares to order a steak cooked well done.

4)  As this is a much-loved steakhouse, finding an accompanying red wine is almost like finding a best man for your wedding. You could do a lot worse than a glass of Château La Sauvageonne, Pica Broca, Gérard Bertrand; with its fine and elegant tannins, a memorable evening is guaranteed (unless you drink too much of it).

5)  Sharing steaks are the highlight here and you can see a fine selection on their chalkboard, from chateaubriand, to porterhouse, to prime rib, with the breed and weight also listed.

6)  If you are a lover of tender tasting meat, then the sharing chateaubriand is the cut to choose, along with a classic sauce such as béarnaise. It is vital not to overcook such a thick cut of steak so that it maintains its dreamy texture. This may involve some tricky diplomatic negotiations with your guest to find a cooking level compromise.

7)  Beef dripping chips with smoked salt are packed with meaty flavours, so distract your friend with engaging conversation whilst you subtly transport the chips from plate to palate.

8)  Seafood worshippers are also well-catered for here with the spectacular surfboard which includes exciting well-seasoned items like mussels, oysters, scallops, and langoustines grilled over fire to add a smoky flavour to the shellfish.

9)  Desserts are an unmissable affair as well with a well-executed salted caramel tart that has flavours accentuated with the addition of blood orange; whilst One Tower Bridge honey roasted apple is a surprisingly delicate affair thanks, in part, to the custard, honeycomb, and bric pastry.

10) If your friendship or romance survives after a meal at The Coal Shed, then there's always their Sunday sharing roast meals to consider for a repeat challenge.
