T.E.D (Think.Eat.Drink) Review
Top 10 things you should know about T.E.D (Think.Eat.Drink):
1) I often see adverts for food that is ‘guilt free’. Finally, I think, guilt free food, hurrah! But be warned, these adverts are misleading. They do not mean that it is ethical food, where, for example, the chickens have been massaged once a day and sang to by happy farmers before being killed for my culinary pleasure; they mean that the food is LOW calorie.
2) Well I don’t care about whether my meal is fattening. Liberal amounts of oil and butter make food better in my mind. But I do care about the ethics of what I am eating and T.E.D. restaurant in King’s Cross actually supplied me with proper guilt free food.
3) T.E.D uses ethically sourced and sustainable British produce to give you a guilt free eating experience, so you can leave your worries about battery farming, pesticide use and excessive food miles at the door.
4) In fact, the whole experience was entirely relaxing for the soul.
5) My companion and I went for lunch on a scorching Sunday and were cooled and soothed by the retro fans on the ceiling and the pretty décor of distressed white walls, coupled with blue tiles and flowers. It reminded me of being in breezy spot in Greece for an instant relaxation hit.
6) Luckily, because feeling virtuous doesn’t make up for a poor meal, it was not only good for the soul but a pleasure for the taste buds as well. Focusing on English ingredients means that often overlooked goodies were used, such as deliciously sweet cockles and salty samphire.
7) The British lamb with red onion and fresh orange was also superb. And I cannot overlook my dessert, of cherry clafouti, which was incredible sweet and moreish, with a delicious chewy crust.
8) All the other diners, families, people on their own, couples, were, I like to think, sharing the happy contentment that comes of doing something pleasurable and morally good.
9) The staff added to my happy feeling, by being terribly nice the whole time, including apologising profusely when the coffee machine - made from recycled coffee materials, obviously - wouldn’t work.
10) My soul was happy, my taste buds were satisfied, my eyes were soothed by the pretty décor. Definitely somewhere to go again. ...read more
