Bombay Brasserie Review

Book a table at Bombay Brasserie

Top 10 things you need to know about Bombay Brasserie restaurant:

1) It’s literally a hop, skip and a jump from Gloucester Road Tube Station to Bombay Brasserie.

2) Restaurants are like female Hollywood actors. When they reach a certain age they’re no longer considered desirable. Established since 1982, this Indian restaurant has previously been labelled as ‘old’ and ‘tired’, but is that really fair? As a woman who’s on the wrong side of 25, I feel the restaurant deserves a fair hearing.

3) Start at the bar and order the mango and chilli mojito at the staff’s recommendation. This cocktail will set you back £10 but each sip is worth every penny.

4) It’s rare for a bar to make mocktails as tasty as their alcoholic cousins. The tamaringer cocktail manages to be sweet, sour, salty and utterly slurp-worthy.

5) The dining room is impressive. The vast white-walled room is filled with large round tables covered in white tablecloths and waiters in white uniforms milling around in a determined yet elegant fashion. Gold-framed mirrors, mahogany tables with flower features, and a grand piano in the corner add to the elegance.

6) Waiters do everything to provide that yesteryear dining experience. Not only does service come with a smile, but it also comes with a sense that they’re proud to serve you.

7) If only my fellow diners could match such elegance. T-shirts and linen shorts are not suitable dinner attire. This is a fashionable restaurant in fashionable Kensington, not a pop-up in Soho.

8) The star of the starter show is undoubtedly the palak patta chaat - crispy fried baby spinach. Be prepared to be very sorry if you forget to add this to your meal. It’s the same with the prawn dishes. The supersize king prawns are meatier than a chicken that’s been bought up on a diet of sunflower seeds and meal worms.

9) Nobody should have favourites, but the staff inevitably admit they do. The pan-fried masala seabass is the main of all mains. For veggies, go for the Bhindi amchuri (okra). Carnivores should go for the salli boti lamb dish.

10) At the end of the night, Bombay Brasserie isn’t tired. It’s an establishment that puts class and elegance over trend and hype. This should be respected and not dismissed. BB is here to stay!
