3 Cromwell Road Description

3 Cromwell Road is a bar, restaurant and club situated in a three storey Georgian townhouse overlooking South Kensington’s Natural History Museum.

Steeped in history, 3 Cromwell Road was the first London venue in which Jimi Hendrix played a live performance, and has been a regular hangout for numerous A list celebrities over the past six decades having been a restaurant, casino and a private members’ club.

3 Cromwell Road comprises three floors including a first floor restaurant The Drawing Room; a ground floor cocktail bar The Back Room and a downstairs club The Basement.

3 Cromwell

Road, which has a total capacity of approximately 300 people, aesthetically juxtaposes Patrician design details from 19th and 20th Century London townhouses featuring working fireplaces in each floor, with an edgier, more contemporary array of pop culture features including neons and Kalashnikov rifles papered into the walls. All furniture is by Andrew Martin, founder of Interior Designer of the Year Award and described by The Sunday Times as "a barometer of style for our era”.

The Drawing Room is open daily for dinner – serving steak frites only – and drinks from 6pm to 1am, as well as weekend lunches from midday. The Back Room is open daily until 3am, and The Basement Thursday to Saturday until 3am.

Drawing Room

A high-ceilinged top floor Drawing Room is accentuated by features such as a giant vintage chandelier, a mini grand piano, vintage table football and a bar where mixologists prepare drinks from an impressive cocktail list by bar manager Anthony Bannier (Moët Hennessy; Supper Club; Soho House; Beach Blanket Babylon) marrying classic with contemporary. In keeping with The Great Gatsby feel of the venue a quote from the book features in neon on one wall, as well as additional quotes being painted on the bathroom walls. In The Drawing Room waiters – all staff at 3 Cromwell Road are dressed with a tongue in cheek nod to aristocratic service of yesteryear sporting tweed and flat caps – serve guests steak frites with a choice of three salads and three dressings.

The Back Room

The ground floor bar – The Back Room – resembles an apothecary with warm hues, deep velvet banquet seating, two fireplaces and twenty foot high windows. The Back Room showcases a mix of DJs and live performances and offers an extensive cocktail list, as well as boasting a courtyard and lush garden to the rear.

The Basement

Downstairs at 3 Cromwell Road – The Basement – is home to the club, where a range of DJs perform each night. An extensive cocktail menu offers a selection of classics as well as a range of fun sharing cocktails. The Basement features graffitied wallpaper, dance podiums and padded walls with neon touches. Everything from tables to the entire venue are available for private hire.

The team behind 3 Cromwell Road is responsible for some of London’s most successful venues. It is co-owned by Howard Spooner, who co-owns Dukebox nightclub in Chelsea and was the principle shareholder at Public, as well as owning well known Chelsea nightspots The Leopard Lounge, Embargo and Crazy Larry’s, and bought and restored legendary venues the Hammersmith Palais and the Clapham Grand.

Co-owner Dipak Panchal is the name behind numerous London ventures, most recently Dukebox. The team at 3 Cromwell Road has strong operational experience, with senior personnel having been involved with many of Dipak and Howard’s previous projects including Dukebox, Public and a number of other successful London hotspots such as Mahiki.
