Six Restaurant Review
Top 10 things to know about Six bar and restaurant:
1) You’ll find The Six restaurant, named after King Henry the VIII’s six wives, tucked inside the newly refurbished King’s Arms Hotel, located in the world-famous Hampton Court. It sits rather splendidly right next to the gates of Hampton Court Palace. In fact, it directly overlooks the maze and is so close that you could, if you wanted, tell people which way to go.
2) Spread across the whole ground floor, The Six has a dedicated dining area that exudes elegance and class; a separate bar area; and another dining area at the far end that can be used for private parties.
3) None other than Michelin Star chef, Mark Kempson, of Kensington W8 fame, is the restaurant’s creative head, while Jack Scoines is the resident head chef. Together they’ve created a menu that champions British produce, including some ingredients from Hampton Court Palace Gardens itself.
4) The dishes themselves are also very British, but with a modern twist. So while you might opt for something fairly traditional, such as lamb rump, you’ll find it comes with artichokes, sweet onions, lamb croquette and rosemary – and looks like a work of art.
5) One of the stand-out dishes is the squash and Tunworth cheese pie, with nettle pesto, salt baked celeriac and girolles. It’s so well designed that there are even handmade pastry leaves decorating the lid of the pie.
6) Despite this, the star of the show is, unexpectedly, the bread and butter. Yes, seriously. The bread is like a freshly baked cloud with neatly crisped edges, and the butter is perfectly salted and blended with cooked shallots. It’s worth a visit for this alone.
7) The wine list is similarly fantastic, and includes everything from a straightforward house red, to a bottle of Portuguese unoaked Douro Cotto. There’s also a classic range of expertly made cocktails.
8) While Hampton Court is not as “London” as some might consider, it's the perfect distance for a relaxing day trip that can be spent at the Palace, deer spotting in famous Bushy Park or wandering around the local shops.
9) And aside from the fabulous location, food, drink and service at The Six, if you’re feeling too full, or lazy, to travel home there are a number of sumptuous hotel rooms waiting for you upstairs to rest your head for the night.
10) If you do decide to stop over, don’t miss breakfast. There’s more of that amazing bread, plenty of freshly baked pastries, hot breakfasts made to order and some of the best coffee for miles around....read more
