The King William IV Description

Now that we are here a while we have come a long way in building the business up to what the neighbourhood has been waiting for, a friendly warm inviting pub at the heart of hampstead. With the kitchen at full throttle cooking freshly homemade food using local ingredients and our £5 daily specials from monday to friday, offering Thai Chicken Curry to Irish Stew, to a lazy saturday morning with the papers over a platter of anti-pasti for two.

The King William pub attracts a broad cross section of customers and hosts a variety of eclectic events each month including pub quiz, music and we are looking

forward to events such as the 6 nations rugby, paddy's day and the world cup which will also be shown live in our beer garden and in our function room.

Booking are strongly recommended on Saturdays and especially Sundays due to high demand.

New Menu:

Our food menu offers a mix of dishes for any palate. We have a traditional varied roasts on Sunday, with a shortened selection from our main menu.

• Our function room is available for various events, civil partnerships, family gatherings, private dining, business meetings and after picnic parties (especially if your day has been ruined by the weather!)

• Late licenses can be obtained from the council for your parties with prior notice.

• We are a dog friendly pub, ideal for those who are coming in from a long walk on the heath.

• Our staff are warm and friendly and are willing to accommodate your needs and any special requirements such as wheelchair assistance.

“This pub has been transformed from 'chav central' into the most relaxing professionally run gastro-pub in the Hampstead area under the new management. The new King William has been open for only a week after a refurb and I have dined there twice, the food and beer is superb, the service is excellent!”

“Whoever is running this place is having a laugh. This is supposed to be Hampstead, not chav central. Terrible atmosphere, full of common people and drunks. The barman had a baseball cap on and looked like something off a council estate. Terrible rough pub which should be re-located to Camden town. The beer was terrible and we left after our first drink!”

“No real ale on tab, and the wine was rubbish. Very poor pub. Would like to know who is running this pub and give him a piece of my mind.”

“After an absence from Hampstead for three years, I thought I would try my old local; King William IV. I was aware that the pub had been refurbished, and was somewhat pleased to see that most of the traditional features of the old bar were retained. Although some of the decor did seem rather cheap for Hampstead. I was disappointed to see that there was no real ale on tap, so we decided to choose a bottle of wine instead, only to find that they had run out of this too. After choosing a second bottle of wine we were astonished to find that this was out of stock too. So we asked what wine they did have and ordered this for £10, which was undrinkable! We did have sympathy for the bar staff, it obviously wasn't their fault. Although the woman who served us was rather rude, slamming glasses and muttering under her breath. I thought the pub may be having a bad day, and perhaps a delivery didn't turn up with it being a Sunday. Next we decided to move onto larger, all deciding to drink Kronenberg. This was served to us in warm glasses, and was flat. I pointed this out to the lady to no effect. I have been coming to this pub for over thirty years; the staff were always friendly and I knew them all on first name terms. In addition there was always ale and a selection of wine. The William was a pleasure to drink in, and had many many regulars. I saw only two on my visit. This is the worst pub in Hampstead: the staff are rude; they have no beer or wine; the music was too loud. What ”

“The refurbishment has made this look and feel a lot better, but the service was terrible. The sour-faced woman behind the bar brought the wrong food order, didn't refund the difference (we were asked to pay upon ordering), never asked how the food was or whether we wanted someone else, and when we asked for water, she slammed the glass down on the counter and shouted out, "Water!" I accept this is pub food, not a full-service restaurant, but that's no excuse for unfriendly service. The food was OK but, strangely, the chef sprinkled pepper all around the edge of the plates as well as in the food. ”

“This is the worst pub I have ever been to. It's dirty and depressing. After I had been to the bar the manager asked the bar man to get some photo ID from me. I told the bar man I was 27yrs old and thought it was joking. The bar man explained that at the managers request all of us had to show ID. we are 27, 28, 26 & 37!!! The manager was rude, he could not even look me in the eye. No way to I look much younger than 25. This pub stinks, it's unwelcoming in every sense. Take my advice walk 5 minutes down the road to Bar Room Bar or The Holly Bush.”

“If you think about how much ka-ching walks by the king's door every day [hampstead high street, darling] it is surprising how unspoilt this pub still is - not a fusiony nibble, sauteed prawn or chocolate souffle in sight. Instead the atmosphere is relaxed, and it sometimes gets a bit noisy with the many different nights they host [hula party in february - genius] great place to drink & not be rushed.”
