The Flask Review

The Flask is featured in these Guides:

This gentrified working class local sits comfortably in Flask Walk – a small Victorian passage off Hampstead High Street. The Flask is one of Hampstead’s finest traditional English pubs serving a decent selection of Young’s ales, bitters, lagers and unusual variations such as double chocolate stout and honey beer.

Built in 1874 this Victorian alehouse carries its authenticity well with its dark wooden floor, roaring fire, wooden velvet upholstered chairs and wooden tables. The floral carpet in the back room adds the finishing touches to the classic English pub design and secures that taproom chic.

There are three bars that make up the Flask – the all-wooden smoky Public Bar, the homely Saloon Bar and the Conservatory at the back where you can order typical English pub fayre – jacket potatoes, mixed grills, lasagne, quiche, Sunday roasts – you know the drill.

One can guess the clientele and the pub’s proximity to old money through its large selection of fine wines and variety of champagnes on offer – not what you’d expect in a former working class boozer. Blue collared workers the punters are not, what you will find here are whiskey-nosed regulars propping up the bar and wax-jacketed walkers warming their bones after a ‘jolly good’ walk on Hampstead Heath.

Although the Flask is warm and welcoming it does lack a certain ambience. It is great for a Sunday pint and bag of crisps if you can afford the Hamsteadesque prices. It’s a great place to take your folks to get to know your partner or to catch up with a best mate over a decent ale or glass of Merlot.

" It's not very often that I give a bad review on anywhere that I've eaten, but I have to say my visit to Chatsworth in Acton last Saturday was the worst and I won't be returning, ever. A group of around..." Which venue is this?
