The Vincent Review

The Vincent is featured in these Guides:

Top 10 things to know about The Vincent:

1) This large glass sanctuary of relaxation is essentially a greenhouse, in which all manner of East London life flourishes.

2) Sat in the cosy, wooden window booths, beneath the lush green plants, you’ll find the family: Mum, Dad, and Grandma tucking into the £8 brunch offer for indecisives (including egg, sweet potato, juice, pastry, granola AND yoghurt!), while the little ones make light work of the kids’ menu.

3) High above on the balcony, overlooking the main bar, eager freelancers gulp industrial strength coffees, staring wide-eyed into bright laptops, refusing to converse with anyone from reality.

4) On the sun-blessed picnic benches outside, tattooed hipsters take advantage of the Monday-Friday £5 burgers, keeping their beards greased until the weekend.

5) They’ll be back on Saturday morning though, as will you, hangover in tow, ready to play the catch-up game. The substantial, varied brunch menu is your savoury saviour, ranging from near-healthy (buttermilk fried chicken caesar salad); to meatless wonders (mushroom vegan balls, veggie hash, or vegeree); to total redemption (cheeseburger - if last night was a REALLY big one).

6) However, if the objective is to stave off lunch urges later in the day, the mighty shakshuka baked eggs with spiced tomato and sweet peppers is like eating a giant bloody Mary, especially when ordering the optional merguez sausage as well (optional: pah!).

7) Throw in a 90-minute period of bottomless prosecco or Hugo cocktails for less than £20 and you can begin to understand why the plethora of friendly staff are all so happy. Do they ever go home?

8) Although there are more than 40 types of craft beer available - such as Pressure Drop Pale Fire and Five Points Hook Island Red Ale - booze can only be served as an accompaniment to food. Lairiness is therefore kept to a minimum (oh well, this is a residential area after all). On the plus side, there are lots of sharing platters which means you’ll have to arrive with your crew. Bonus!

9) The Vincent is sister restaurant to The Miller pub in London Bridge and The Sebright Arms, also in Hackney. You know what that means.

10) If there’s something you’d like to see on the menu, suggest it and see what happens. For anyone living or working in East London, “brunch in Hackney Downs” is four-word phrase that’s vital to your very existence.
