Cafe Rouge Review
Book a table at Cafe Rouge
Cafe Rouge Bar restaurant has an atmosphere that is quintessentially French. Close your eyes and you could be sitting in a café in the middle of Paris. From the moment you enter you are greeted by French music and friendly, helpful staff, who also speak French! Making the experience even more authentic.
Decorated in rich reds and brown leathers, it is this mixture of old versus new that makes Café Rouge the perfect place to visit, whether you want to have a cosy chat with your best friend or have a perfect end to a date with someone close. The atmosphere is relaxed and you can drop in for breakfast lunch or just to have dessert.
The dessert menu at Café Rouge is divine, and highly recommend is the Tart Tatin – which is Caramelised French apple tart served warm with vanilla ice cream; or for those with a love of chocolate, the Marquise au Chocolat is the one for you - it’s a rich chocolate dessert on a crunchy, praline base served with crème fraîche.
Expect to pay £8 - £12 for a main meal, £3 - £4 for a glass of wine and £3 - £5 for dessert.
The clientele ranges from the hip and edgy young urbanite shoppers in their twenties to older diners having afternoon tea.
This is definitely not the place to visit if you are on a wild night out with friends, it is far too cozy for that. But it has the advantage of being situated in the heart of Greenwich, meaning that you could start with a quiet drink and meal at the Café Rouge, then move on to the many bars in the area or take advantage of the excellent transport links in Greenwich and move on to a club in central London....read more

“A friend and myself went to Cafe Rouge for lunch today (6/7/05) as a special treat. We decided to have the set luch menu as the items listed appeared very appetising. The restaurant was not very busy with only about 6 tables being occupied.
I had the puff pastry choice for starter which was quite nice. The main course was the omlette served with chips and salad. The omlette was very dry and unappetising. It tasted like it had been made earlier and then re-heated in the microwave. The chips were also soggy and very disappointing.
Following our meal we ordered 2 glasses of wine and 2 glasses of water. The wine arrived on our table in about 10 minutes but we waited a further 15 minutes for the water and even had to remind the waitress again.
I was very disappointed with the quality of the food and the slow service and will not be returning to this restaurant again. I also will not recommend cafe rouge to any of my friends.”
