In Parma Review

Located in the popular foodie haven of Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, In Parma is the first restaurant introduced by Food Roots to be dedicated to European PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) products. PDO, PGI represents the certification of authenticity given to about 1000 products from all over Europe given by the European Commission. Food Roots is devoted to the preservation of traditional European produce, only importing food and wine that bears the PDO and PGI seals. These products are then served at the restaurant with many of them also available to buy for home use.

In Parma, as the name suggests, serves many PDO products that are from the Italian province of Parma, such as Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano, or parmesan as it is more commonly known. Guests are invited to try the most popular Italian products that have been handpicked from the best small producers and created using traditional methods to guarantee the authenticity of flavour. At lunch there is an array of take-away dishes available for those in a rush; otherwise diners are invited to enjoy lunch or dinner in the comfort of the restaurant. Guests will not only experience Italian PDO food and traditional ways to consume them, but they will also learn the authentic methods of production that have been protected through generations; a complete educational and authentic Italian dining experience.

A core offering at In Parma is the various sharing platters of charcuterie and cheese served on beautiful olive wood boards and accompanied by selected wines. The popular In Parma mixed meat platter includes Culatello from Zibello, 24 month aged Proscuitto Crudo from Parma, and Lardo from Colonnata. Similarly, the In Parma cheese board has a complete selection of different ages and types of precious cheese from Parma: 12 month old, 24 month old, 36 month old Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Parmigiano from Red Cross. There is also the choice to have a meat and cheese board for one as well as hot dishes and salads: parmesan lasagne, homemade egg pasta, fonduta and homemade polenta. As recommended by founder of Food Roots and owner of In Parma, Christian Pero, the food matches perfectly with Lambrusco, a popular sparkling red wine, unique to In Parma, served in the traditional bowl called ‘Fojeta’.

The 30-cover restaurant is situated in a cosy room full of rustic Italian charm with exposed brickwork, hanging meats and bottles lining shelves made from old wooden wine crates. There is also additional outdoor seating ideal for people-watching with a fojeta of Lambrusco on a crisp autumn afternoon.
