“I've given this pub 1 star because the femaie barmaid who served me last night was incredibly rude! I bought some drinks and some bar snack food and as I was with a smoker (who wanted to sit outside), I told the barmaid that I was seated outside. Going to the bar again 20 odd minutes later I politely told another barman that I still hadn't received the food. The barmaid told me that they had been looking for me and that I had 'lied' to her about where I was sitting (as you do!!) She was then very aggressive and when she finally delivered the food; again argued with me and sarcasically told me to enjoy my food. This was cold - my punishment I suppose. The rest of the bar staff seemed fine by the way.”

“Maybe some of the people who are giving the North Star a bad review for service have received bounceback from their own attitutdes. I have been going to this pub for nearly 3 years now and the service, attitude, atmosphere and value for money cannot be beaten. It is far superior to any other venue in the area.”

“I have decided to write this review in light of an incident there that happened only this evening. I warn those thinking of going there for the first time, if you want a pub that has a friendly relaxed atmosphere, I advise you to look elswhere. I don't know what's happened to door staff these days, but they clearly view themselves on some sort of level far above you and I. Upon being told that the drinking up time was elapsed, my friend, who had a pint in his hand was forcibly ejected from the premises for no reason that I can feasibly think of. The other doorman on duty that night reinforced his colleague's incomprehensible over-reaction by assisting in the removal of my friend and threatening him "not to touch me again." Once my friend had been taken to one side outside of the establishment, I requested the name of both door staff and the company who employed them. Needless to say, this information was not forthcoming. I implore you not to support this business which clearly has absolutely no care of the welfare of its patrons, preferring unjust treatment meted out by thugs.”

“I went to the North Star last Sunday (19th April) to catch up with some friends for lunch. My friends went for the roast (which they said was tough and stringy), and I went for a lighter option: Humous with crudites and flatbread. The portion of carrots and cucumber sticks was generous, as was the 5-6 strips of flatbread, but the humous came in a teeny tiny ketchup pot. Obviously, I finished the humous very quickly and politely asked the passing waiter whether it'd be possible to get a cheeky top-up. He said to me: "That's the portion." When I explained that the portion ratio was all wrong, he just stared blankly and said, "That's the portion. You'll have to pay for more." When I asked to see a manager, he said "Okay," and then failed to send anyone out to speak to me. Not undeterred, I went and sought out the manager (turned out to be an assistant manager). He said the same thing ("That's the portion") but admitted that it was an "epic fail" for the waiter not to have alerted him to the issue when I'd asked to see someone. I explained that I lived in Ealing, came to this pub often with friends and was disappointed that their customer service could not be altered slightly for a bit of humous (which probably equates to, at best, a cost of 25p to them). Don't know about the drinks - we had bottled Magners - but I will not be returning to the North Star. There are plenty of other places in Ealing to go.”

“Nice enough pub, with a decent outside seating area in the summer and good locals. The downside is the complete lack of barstaff which means you should expect to wait 10-15 mins to get served. When you do finally get served it's as if they are doing you a favour by pouring you a drink. So a bit like a lot of central London bars. If you don't like waiting ages to be served, try The Lodge or O'Neills.”

“Nice for a drink, but I would rather starve than eat here again, the food is revolting slop and overpriced - try Baroque in West Ealing for a trendy bar with good food.”

“Best pub in Ealing, I can say that categorically. Good range of beers from mainstream Carling to others that I can't spell. Sublime range of tunes to put a smile on your face and create a relaxed atmosphere. Comfy chairs inside or plenty of benches outside making it ideal for lazy summer evenings. Prices are pretty standard for London @ £2.70 a pint for Amstel. Full of your trendy twentysomethings as well as myself, you can relax knowing Edwards and the Townhouse keep the burberry clan away.”

“One of the best pubs in ealing, cool music, good choice of spirits and a good if slightly expensive food menu. Pikeys don''t like it bcos they don''t play chart music or serve stella They also sell people''s art which means that it always has something nice if slightly avant garde to look at inside.”

“Nice atmosphere and has come a long way since it's old-man-watering-hole roots... Nice comfortable sofas, seated on which one can enjoy a decent, if overpriced large glass of wine [or two, by which time you've pretty much had the bottle, so why not just order one of those - Ed]. Prices can be as high as £4.50 a glass, but still, The North Star is the better choice from a poor selection of non-pikey places to go in Ealing.”
