The Haven Review
The Haven lies at the foot of Haven Green, a charming park opposite Ealing Broadway station at the west end of the city. The friendly little pub is housed in an ivy covered Victorian building; reminiscent of yesteryear’s garage and well suits the pub’s title. A gorgeous front patio blooms in the spring and is absolutely rammed during the warmer months, says hospitable manager Eithne Hughes. Décor is like your typical pub; and with lots of cosy benched tables and corners to chill out: the Haven definitely feels like a public home.
The clientele are casual young professionals who pack the place on Tuesday and Sunday evenings to take part in quiz nights, hosted by local quizmaster Steve King. It costs one pound to participate and you have the chance of winning generous prizes of champagne, food, beer or wine.
Food is affordable and tasty. Sunday roasts come with healthy helpings of potatoes and a delectable horseradish sauce. The gooey stilton lasagne is rich but not excessive, with chopped button mushrooms and spinach layered amongst pasta and cheese. The light bites menu has a nice selection of snacks to munch on while you test your knowledge on quiz nights. My friend had the guest ale: Bristol IPA and my Bloody Mary was the ideal remedy to the previous evening’s antics.
A function room lies on the second floor with a full bar and separate toilets. The Haven’s staff are eager to please, and the room can be easily transformed to suit anything from corporate gatherings, to world cup parties. There are three buffet menus to choose from, a sizable dance floor and large plasma screen to accommodate your needs.
The Haven is a welcome retreat from the domination of chain pubs in Ealing, so for a relaxing night to kick back with your mates, go and check it out....read more
