The Palmerston Description

The Palmerston re-opened after a much needed refurbishment on the 27th of February 2004. Since then, under the guidance of Head Chef Jamie Younger, it has received much critical acclaim and has become a firm favourite in the increasingly popular East Dulwich area as proven when, through public vote, the Palmerston won the ‘Best Gastro Pub in London, Gold award’ at the LBC, Independent Newspaper - ‘Living London’ 2006 awards.

“The place does reflect the views posted here. The food is generally good but is overpriced. There is certainly more emphasis on the gastro than the pub and I don't think they have the balance right between eating and drinking. Perhaps with the extended opening hours we will regain what should be one of the best locals left in ED. ”

“When I was 18, the Palmerston was our local. The main attraction was the Juke-box, which in those days needed a "thruppenny" piece for each record chosen. In 1959, we played Connie Francis one of the first ladies of rock, Buddy Holly, Elvis, of course, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty etc. Very fond memories of the Palmerston, even though it was a Watneys' pub, in those days! “I went there expecting great things from what I had read about the place on the internet. When making the booking, I asked if they catered for vegetarians and they said they had "plenty" of veggie options. We turned up and there was one veggie starter and one main course. Ok, I'm used to this but the starter was pasta with parmesan and the main course was pasta with tomato sauce. When I questioned the waitress whether I was really expected to have pasta for both my starter and main, and two such unimaginative dishes at that (priced at £6.50 and £9.50 respectively) I was told very begrudgingly that I could have a green salad instead. Totally unacceptable - so we walked. I would rank this place as 0 if possible. The lies told when booking, the lack of imagination (and respect) for vegetarian food and the appalling attitude of the staff have left me feeling so embittered that I walked out of a restaurant for the first time in my life. Shocking.”

“Couln''t disagree more with the previous reviewer, as my local pub i am a frquent visitor and whilst the menu prices may vary depending on the produce the the food is always fantastic. Sunday lunches however are great value , but because of this can be enormously busy (book a week in advance to guarantee a table) and therefore service may be a little frantic.”

“A great disappointment. Service ranged from apathetic to contemptuous, after which the food is not even worth going into.”

Loved

"Hi guys, I come here with my friends and have very good time. I like your place very much and is very good times. I come back when I can soon. Thank you very much." Which venue is this?

Hated

"Dreadful pub, run by people who have zero idea about hospitality or running a pub. Upon arrival we sat in the back garden that only had one other table occupied , when we tried to order off the lunch menu..." Which venue is this?
