The Piano Works Review

Top 10 things to know about The Piano Works:
1) What's the best way to get over an acrimonious break-up? Bottomless prosecco and being serenaded by Whitney and Mariah might be the medication you require. They dispense this in abundance, and more, when you book the weekend brunch at The Piano Works live music bar and restaurant near Farringdon.
2) Entrance is unusually strict with barricades and security outside. Perhaps they fear bunny boilers akin to the type in Fatal Attraction.
3) The first thing you notice as you descend the mysterious staircase is the sultry sound that greets your arrival. One moment it might be Madonna, next it might be Britney. All the songs are classics picked by the audience and played by two sensationally talented vocal pianist.
4) The audience tends to be either birthday parties or girls on a hen party, unsurprisingly, and you can probably put your mortgage on a birthday song being sung at some point during your brunch visit. Otherwise, power ballads are the norm for those lovelorn or smitten.
5) The Weekend Brunch to the Beat menu is a very eggtastic affair: eggs royale, eggs Florentine, scrambled eggs or fried eggs; all using high-quality Burford brown eggs. Clever versions are available too, such as the "Love me or hate me eggs benedict" using Marmite hollandaise sauce.
6) Dessert is kept quite simple, much like the lyrics of the songs being sung. On offer: pancakes, waffles and fruit salads. The light, fluffy, buttery pancakes are the recommended choice, topped with healthy doses of berries to offer an illusion of healthiness.
7) Bottomless drinks for two hours is likely to be a primary reason for guests who visit, whether they are celebrating, or drowning their sorrows. You get a decent choice of Bloody Marys, mocktails or prosecco; with most opting for the high-quality fizz coming from Ca' Bolani, which is in the top white wine region of Italy.
8) Service is equally sparkling with frequent top-ups proactively given out rather than guests having to wait to have their thirst quenched.
9) Price isn't the most wallet-friendly. If you think £15 has gone into the bottomless prosecco, the remaining £20 is potentially for the eggs benedict, the waffle, and oh, the entertainment.
10) The stars of the show are indeed the singers and not the food. They are on key every step of the way, no matter how obscure a song you request....read more

“Booked this for our staff Xmas party. I had heard good things and so that is why I booked it. However, from the start it was a bad experience. The establishment was rude on the phone and I felt they could not wait to get me off the phone when I made my initial enquiry. They put a lot of pressure on me to pay the full amount straight away even though we had two weeks within which to pay it. I made a request for a colleague who has dietary requirements and these were completely ignored. Not only that, but when my dessert came, it was dry and I asked for more custard and was told I couldn't and it's 'just what's provided'. They then proceeded to push us off our table to make us stand even though there were absolutely no other customers in the whole place. We were forced to huddle in a corner when there were free tables for hours and hours. And to top it all off, they lost my colleague's coat. Staff's attitudes and behaviours were surly and rude, like they just didn't want us there. I have had a very bad experience with the Piano Works and will never go there again or recommend it to anyone. ”
