The Piano Works Review

Book a table at The Piano Works

Top 10 things you need to know about The Piano Works:

1) What do you think when you read the words “piano bar”? Dusty old armchairs and jazz tunes in the background? Well, Piano Works is nothing like that.

2) This Farringdon club, situated in the basement of an old Victorian warehouse, has stripped away the piano bar concept. It’s young and loud, and it gets wild.

3) The design has a cool industrial vibe. The attention revolves around a central stage and two pianos – a man and a woman play and sing alternately, but not your usual piano bar repertoire.

4) The audience is busy drinking at the bar, devouring snacks at tables around the stage, and generally talking loud – this is not the opera, so you’re allowed to behave accordingly.

5) Food-wise, Piano Works offers a good value steak menu. But this is not a place for dinner: the focus isn’t the food, or the booze, but the experience. So, order a platter of mini burgers, and get in the game!

6) Here you don’t just order the food, but the live music as well. Every single song played by the musicians is requested by you, the audience. Just write your musical request on one of the paper napkins at your table, and place it on top of the lamp in front of you. The waiter will pick it up and hand it to the pianist. Easy peasy.

7) And cheesy; in the sense that you have to embrace the happy cheesiness of Piano Works for your song to be actually played. Forget your sophisticated music taste for one night, and go for ABBA, Taylor Swift, and Backstreet Boys.

8) The vibes start to build from 9.30pm, when the pianists are joined by a drummer, a guitarist and a saxophonist. It doesn’t take long before Piano Works turns into a sort of club; a live band where the DJ would be; pop hits from the 90s instead of electro tunes. Singing along is now compulsory.

9) Try to come on a Tuesday for emerging singers’ competitions, or on a Wednesday for special wine deals.

10) Fun and lively, Piano Works is the perfect after-work destination – no better way to do some team-building than singing along over a charcuterie platter. If you think intimacy and conversation are overrated, you could even take your date here.

Customer Reviews for The Piano Works

“Booked this for our staff Xmas party. I had heard good things and so that is why I booked it. However, from the start it was a bad experience. The establishment was rude on the phone and I felt they could not wait to get me off the phone when I made my initial enquiry. They put a lot of pressure on me to pay the full amount straight away even though we had two weeks within which to pay it. I made a request for a colleague who has dietary requirements and these were completely ignored. Not only that, but when my dessert came, it was dry and I asked for more custard and was told I couldn't and it's 'just what's provided'. They then proceeded to push us off our table to make us stand even though there were absolutely no other customers in the whole place. We were forced to huddle in a corner when there were free tables for hours and hours. And to top it all off, they lost my colleague's coat. Staff's attitudes and behaviours were surly and rude, like they just didn't want us there. I have had a very bad experience with the Piano Works and will never go there again or recommend it to anyone. ”
