The Calf Review

Book a table at The Calf

The Calf has successfully enlarged the "Clapham Cool" area into this previously quiet part of London. Fairly near the happening Sun, the random Prince of Wales and the love it or hate it Frog and Forget Me Not, The Calf is right on the perimeter of Clapham Old Town going on up towards Wandsworth Road. A gastro pub that offers the attractive rich 'Claphamites' good food and friendly service, an excellent wine list, an ecleptic mix of seating over two areas - one slightly raised at the back, mellow tunes, a table football and a pool room way to the back. Atmosphere is perfect for meeting up with mates, lovers or potentials - nothing heavy, with no sign of agro from fellow drinkers who are merely there like you enjoying The Calf.

“Eaten many places in London, would have to say well worthy. Far superior to something like an "All bar one". 6 of us ate there and all were very satisfied. Service is a little slow but friendly. Enjoyable relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to next time we're in the area.”

“One of the best looking pubs around, food was good and a great selection of beers and wines. Heaps of cozy places to hang out with your mates for hours.”

“Worst pub i've ever been to. Service is SO bad. Staff always look stoned out of their brains. It's a great location and a great atmosphere inside, but the punters are never coming back a second time because it's so poorly run and by people with zero intelligence. Pity.”

“This is the worst pub in Clapham. Though a good place to go if you want to save money as it takes an age to get served. Was there last week and it took 15 minutes to get served. The food is awful as well. Over priced and takes ages to come. I guess its made its name from somewhere but can't believe why people kepp going there.”

“Let's hope the Boss reads this!! Visit Sunday 2nd Oct 7pm I must have gone on a bad (Food) night..... Great looking bar, yummy wine and good beats but the food.....! Love the open kitchen, but to see the "Cook" not Chef blow 3 times over your food to put out the fire on the grill is pretty low. Good thing the flames would kill any Hep A-Z. The £10.50 steak was well cooked but the Field Mushroom"s" was a single mushroom the size of a 50p coin, The tomato"s" again were a singular item but the kick in the £10.50 teeth was the 5 wedges that were served. What a rip off! I then watched the cook, he actually counts the wedges on to the plate. A bag of spuds is how much??? The poor people near us got two plates of wedges.... 12 individual wedges in all at a cost of 50p a wedge. Please, you have such a great venue don't spoil it with bad grub! You can drink anywhere but you'll travel miles for a good feed......”

“Great bar! Very accessible from either Clapham Junction/Common/North/South. Yummy food, good drinks - although does take forever to get served on a Thur/Fri/Sat night. Young, trendy, up for it punters! The Calf is a definite if you want a good night out in Clapham, without the pretentiousness of some of the other bars in the area.”

“I'd heard good things about Calf so decided to head there for Sunday lunch. I was reasonably impressed with the bar itself, but the food and service was terrible. Do not get your sunday roast here.”

“The Calf is great. Not much further out of Clapham than the Sun, but not so full of awful city/clapham/rahs. It has a nice atmosphere, with wodden floors, comfy seats and good artwork. The beer has always tasted good, and service has never been slack. The food is certainly tasty, but is fairly expensive. It is nice to see your food being prepaired in the open kitchen. It also gets top marks for having a proper French 'Baby Foot' table, I just love that 'ping' when you hit the ball. Over all the Calf is a winner. Propably my favorite pub in Clapham. Worth a visit!”

"My Gulascheintopf war perfekt and so was the Weissbier. I was in Kingston Steins. I do have a few suggestions for decor and table. 1. you need a little jar of toothpicks on the table to get meat out from..." Which venue is this?

Hated

"I visited browns alone after work and got convinced to spend an hour in the “VIP” room with Jennifer - which is just a corner of the private dance area - no privacy at all. I essentially paid £500 for..." Which venue is this?
