Scarfes Bar Review
Scarfes Bar is featured in these Guides:
Top 10 things to know about Scarfes Bar:
1) Elegant; sophisticated; grand; Scarfes bar is all of these and more. Located in the mixed up world of High Holborn, in which educational, high class and lower rung establishments can be found, is the stylish Rosewood London.
2) A beautiful sight for the eyes, the hotel is all oohs and aahs as you find yourself walking through iron gates into one of the most simplistic yet beautiful Edwardian courtyards you’re ever likely to discover.
3) Beyond Scarfes’ revolving door, the atmosphere is intimate: low lighting; secret corners; and beautiful people playing piano to greet you. Keep an out for the canvas of caricatures to your right.
4) Artist Gerald Scarfe has left his mark whilst paying tribute to English culture. The Beatles, Shakespeare and Dickens characters watch from marble walls with sneers and twisted faces as you take your seat and applaud the end of jazz staple ‘Feeling Good’.
5) Place your Bartenders Book and extremely eclectic menu to one side and awe at the thousand antique books which have been personally selected to enhance your visit to Scarfes bar.
6) Once you have finished inspecting the literature, order the crab cakes, Tandoori chicken tikka, lobster momo, cheese and onion toasty. Wash everything down with a Big Society, a cocktail blended with the sweetness of peach, sharp bitters and fig liqueur. A great night has just started.
7) After inhaling the impressive starters, order your next cocktail, the bittersweet Seine Citrus Fizz; a tall glass of sweet foam, nutmeg, ginger, elderflower and sharp lemonade
8) For the main, I highly recommend the intensely satisfying lobster macaroni and cheese. Large pieces of fresh lobster, perfectly cooked macaroni and creamy cheese served in a small dish. It may not look like enough, but if you can finish the entire dish, I will take off my hat to you. Simple but exquisite.
9) Listen to the band warm up, as you sit by the roaring fire and drink a Sense of Place, a blend of Bombay Sapphire gin, rhubarb and grapefruit. Follow it up with a Himalayan black salt wonder called Bunga-Bunga and the black liquorice fire breathing Made for Gentlemen.
10) If you can walk after drinking these unique Edwardian potions, explore the hotel and find yourself walking down the most stylish corridor. I won’t ruin the surprise, just trust me....read more
