O'Neill's Review
It’s where you go for a good pint of Guinness.
Most of you have probably at some point in your life been in an O’Neill’s pub. So you know what you can expect from this Irish themed bar – Guinness, Guinness and more Guinness. This being the case, I a non-drinking Guinness individual decided that I would take this review writing opportunity to try a bit of the Dublin brewed liquid. As a backup I brought along an expert drinker to help me out in case I couldn’t finish my glass. Half a pint to start with. It’s heavy and has an odd aftertaste, but it’s not bad if you take it slow. My accomplice had a full pint (of course), which made my little glass look rather comical.
Although, eating is technically cheating we did decide to have a bit to eat. Neither of us opted for a pie, instead I had baguette filled juicy prawns in lemon mayonnaise while my pub partner had a goats cheese pasta parcels. The later of the two was the better choice and was in fact served in a well-seasoned, smooth tomato sauce. Our desert was another pint and a half of Guinness and then another. And after I had drunk two full pints I had acquired a taste and perhaps one could even go as far as saying an appreciation for Guinness. This is probably why I didn’t much care for their latest launch, Guinness Red. Made from lightly roasted barley it has a infective reddish colour and tastes a lot lighter than the original stuff. But if you are a proper Guinness drinker then you’ll no cross over and if you aren’t a Guinness drinker you won’t get a true love for the real stuff by drinking the Red.
All in all this O’Neill’s is like all the others, a pleasant place to have a drink with your mates. And if you happen to venture to this venue just before or on St. Patrick’s Day then you can feast your eyes on little leprechauns, flag coloured lamps and free Guinness hats. What more could you ask for!...read more
