Goat Review

Book a table at Goat

Top 10 things you need to know about Goat:

1) If this cosy, multi-level bar and restaurant was in Soho or Covent Garden, it’d be packed to the rafters every night with people like you: fresh from work; tie removed; top button undone; hair down; gassing away with pals like there’s no tomorrow; even though, sadly, there is a tomorrow, and that tomorrow is a work day. Just this once, relinquish the convenient central locations of your standard night out in London. Venture beyond the horizon, betwixt Zones 1 and 2, to the the fancy neighbourhood of Chelsea; island state of perpetual wealth. This is where Goat resides, surrounded by bridal stores, fine art shops and fashion boutiques.

2) It looks like an erstwhile pub of diminutive proportions. Goat’s clever use of the space means there are plenty of seating choices and occasions to explore: heated, covered alfresco benches for group gatherings; exposed brick, candles, chandeliers and logs for lazy bods on the semi-boudoir ground floor; and downstairs, the sunken pit, perhaps where lovers meet, ensconced in a saucy affair.

3) Cocktail junkies can head for the upstairs bar; home of the Old Fashioned Cocktail Club: every week, aphrodisiac secrets and creative libations shared amongst strangers. You can also book private cocktail classes for birthdays and hen parties; and on weekends, a DJ spins tunes from a pulpit; praise be!

4) Additionally, a hidden cocktail bar called the Chelsea Prayer Room is somewhere on the premises. You need to know the secret access code to gain entry. Booking is therefore essential.

5) The cocktails at Goat are life-affirming. They’re made with ingredients that dramatically change your mood. For example, the Santa Clara contains bee pollen to help regulate hormones, whilst the Astoria puts you in a relaxed frame of mind thanks to the cannabis extract it contains. Go easy on yourself initially, start the night with a refreshingly sour French 75, topped with Champagne, before moving onto the more theatrical Jamaican Me Crazy: absinthe and two types of rum served in a shriveled head.

6) You can therefore understand why there’s a buzz pumping through Goat, even during the week. It’s relaxed, but the volume of conversation rises steadily. Despite music being played, it can’t be heard over the chit-chat and bants.

7) London loves a food focus. You can probably recall your favourite London restaurant for every type of cuisine. Well, now you can add Goat into the mix as the best restaurant for wood-fired pizza. Although the Italian style menu includes delights such as grilled meat and fish, the pizza is reason alone to make the journey.

8) Take guidance from the name above the door when selecting your pizza: sweet goat meat and powerful goats’ cheese is definitely not a pizza made for sharing. Alternatively, the pesto, ham and burrata pizza is both crispy and doughy, and laden with topping; too big for small appetites (now you can share).

9) Leave room for afters. The ingenious, dessert-and-matching-cocktail offer is value for money worth accommodating. The tiramisu arrives disguised as a potted plant and the accompanying espresso martini is potent enough to light up your eyes.

10) (Dog-friendly) Goat is waiting for the winds of whim to bring you to its door. Suspend your hectic life and make an effort. Either travel out of (comfort) Zone 1 when the yearning for some classy mid-week action takes hold, or advance your career so rapidly that you can afford to move to SW10.
