The World's End Market Review
Top 10 things to know about The World’s End Market:
1) It may not be situated at the Sloane Square shopping end of the King’s Road, but the World’s End Market restaurant at the World’s End Distillery is definitely worth the trek.
2) From the outside it looks like a very smart gastropub, and, in some ways, it could be described as one, with its gleaming bar and draught beers. However, the menu quickly sets it apart from any kind of pub you’ve ever come across.
3) “The best meat in the world” shouts a line from the menu, featuring cuts by Jose Gordon. He’s apparently the meat master; raising, aging and cooking meat to the highest standards.
4) On display next to the open kitchen you’ll see tender cuts of carpaccio, matured for 180 days; flank steak from the Vacio de Buey; and cured premium ox. Actually, the majority of the menu is based around ox, so expect a whack of full-bodied flavour on your plate.
5) Make time to chat with the friendly staff who are more than willing to advise on which cuts of meat are best depending on how well you like your meat cooked. Apparently, ox is best when it’s less well done.
6) Opt for the succulent Jose Gordon burger for your main course. It's exceptionally well prepared and comes with scalloped chips to scoop up all the ketchup, mayo or whatever else you want to dip them in.
7) Although the focus here is on red meat, there are plenty of fish options too, including seriously large tiger prawns from Madagascar. Get them grilled for a hearty starter that’ll blow you away. It’s probably not the ideal place for vegetarians, although there are some very good options should they choose to accompany you.
8) Whatever you do, even if you’re completely stuffed to bursting, be sure to finish your meal with the cheese plate. It quite literally has the most sensational selection of Neal’s Yard cheeses, ripe and ready for scoffing with seeded crackers and grapes.
9) Then, if you can still move, haul yourself upstairs to the elegant cocktail bar. They do a great Negroni and the service, like in the restaurant, is spot-on.
10) Leave feeling utterly satisfied, high on life, and planning a return trip, pronto. ...read more
