L'Eto Caffe Review

Top 10 things you need to know about L’Eto Caffe:

1) Alliterations aside, this South Kensington chill-out restaurant is defined by its dynamic diversity.

2) Although the vivid, salubrious feast of ingredients on display remains constant throughout the day, the clientele are a disparate bunch: after visiting the nearby V & A Museum, Natural History Museum, and Science Museum, midweek tourists stop by to take advantage of the lunch offer which provides excellent value for money; bag-laden, weekend shoppers seek refuge in the sweet, girly French 75 cocktails after venturing too far beyond Harrods; and on Friday evenings, affluent, bearded North African and Middle Eastern men congregate for their pre-clubbing ritual of caffeine and sugar (it beats necking vodka-Red Bulls).

3) However, all guests share an inability to resist the tractor beam of cake and drooling, maniacal, glucose-deficient zombies continually appear outside the large front window, peering in at the mind-boggling range of brightly-lit sweet dreams.

4) For those who make it inside, an aubergine velvet banquette awaits your eager derrière at the restaurant’s derrière. Go on, touch it; it’s plush, West London plush.

5) M83, Empire of the Sun, and Coldplay’s more oonst-oonst-point-to-the-lasers side keep synth-starved musos entertained as well.

6) The strong Mediterranean menu is for everyone; except the indecisive who will run into problems. Each dish has at least one ingredient to pique the interest. Everything is wild or foamed or uncommonly found in the fruit and veg section of Lidl. To start, the rainbows of colour in the satisfyingly bitter, crunchy, white truffle salad are perhaps only slightly marred by the cloying overuse of leak. Whilst the blackened Bluefin tuna is a Jackson Pollock painting: fruit salad with fish garnish.

7) An alluring mess of ceps, onions, crones and rosemary jus frame a gorgeous sponge-soft slab of beef encrusted with herbs and spices for the main attraction. It would be a truly magnificent piece of work were it not lukewarm and tagged with a butt-clenchingly expensive asking price.

8) They love a big plate here, they do. As do we.

9) Further options lie beneath. Cakes + cocktails + the private basement dining area = hen party bonanza, ladies!

10) L’Eto Caffe’s mélange of colours, creeds and cakes is dazzling, but then so is the cost.

“This delicious little find was the score of our day! Absolutely gorgeous luxury breakfast with pillowy poached eggs for the Benedict, crispy lovely apple pancakes, and croquet to die for. The wait staff was friendly and genuinely proud of their product and so appreciative of our delight and praise! The vanilla croissant was a Creation from above. We loved the presentation on the take away bar and the attention to design in the display, food and the ambience. Wish they would come to LA where they would be mobbed as an instant hit! A must see and taste without question!”
