Cottons Restaurant & Rum Shack Description
Cottons' entrance on Chalk Farm Road (close to both Camden Town and Chalk Farm tube stations) is deceptively modest. Once inside the restaurant opens out before you with Jamaica, their lavish (aptly named) bar area leading to their 3 dining rooms, each themed on a different Caribbean island: St Lucia, Margarita and Barbados. With a seating capacity of 80 persons, each room has been individually designed and decorated to capture the tropical ambience of the West Indies.
Jamaica bar offers a range of 150 different rums from the islands and an inspired cocktail list. Some of the 'famous faces'
There is no such word as 'basic' in Cottons - every dish is presented with class and style. The menu reflects this with inspirations from Hispanic Margarita skillfully blended with French and Jamaican influences. Cottons brings Caribbean delicacies with a twist in a nouveau cuisine approach.

“Guys, saw the Rhum Shack on the box tonight with Oz Clarke. Re' rum distilling, Glasgow had at least two stills for rum, as a by product of sugar refining, in the 18th cent' long before it started distilling whisky. Like rum! but not Oz Clarke! Glasgow Punch was rum, limes, sugar & hot water. Cheers. Wullie.”

I would only recommend eating here if you want a snack, it's not like my grans cooking but no West Indian restaurant will be.”

“Disappointed by the food here, and would dread to think that for someone new to Carribean food it could be their first and last experience of it. Having seen good reviews I took a friend. Both being from Jamaican families we had eaten most of the dishes on the menu before and knew how to cook much of it too. The rice and peas, which as a signature of carribean food should have been excellent, was obviously reheated from being frozen ( if you've had fresh rice and peas you know the difference, there is no disguising the impared taste and texture and it loses the fragrance). I found the chicken curry really salty and cloying with too much seasoning, making me want to cough. I then broke open the largest of several lumps in the curry to find a table-spoon sized blob of undisolved curry powder, wet on the outside and totally dry inside. I asked for it to go back to the kitchen. It appeared to have been hastily prepared by someone relying on dumping some curry powder and water on top of chicken and not even having the good grace to stir it. Just as well they didn't charge me for it. I'd be embarrassed to suggest this venue to anyone, definitely not those familiar with the dishes on offer. A real shame as I'd been looking forward to finally eating there.”

“Really nice restaurant. Food tasty, has a slight twist to the original home style Caribbean food though but in a good way and staff real friendly. Good vibe. If you want that Caribbean experience and to sip all kinds of rum Cottons is the place. They even have a dj on the weekend at the bar.”
