Sheba Review
Book a table at Sheba
Sheba is featured in these Guides:
Top 10 things you need to know about Sheba restaurant:
1) You know when you go to a restaurant and they take your chair away because they want you to leave so they can have your table? No, you probably don't, actually.
2) It happened to me four years ago. Dark day. Where? Brick Lane. Needless to say, I’ve never returned to any curry house along London’s infamous stretch. Until now.
3) I was nervous. I'd brought Blu-Tak. For the chair. The intoxicating whiff of spices as I turned into East London’s home of curry – Bangladeshi and Indian cuisines cuisines dominating – only sent my butterflies into further frenzy. Imagine the effect of a Vindaloo, BEFORE digestion.
4) We all know curry houses run riot on Brick Lane, as do their proprietors, who prowl the pavement on full lure-alert. It's not for the lily-livered, or the short-fused. You have to take a deep breath and leave the fire to the chillies.
5) My destination was Sheba – and I can confirm it has restored my faith.
6) It bills itself as the 'Queen of the Brick Lane curries’. I concur. Dishing up since 1974, it invites you to make it your home for a 'good Indian curry'. And I think I will, thanks.
7) Sometimes, only an old-school ‘British’ Indian curry will do (you know what I mean). There must be Bhunas, Baltis and Tikkas aplenty, served in familiar silver dishes followed by piping hot flannels that turn limply lukewarm faster than chairs disappear.
8) But it's nice if there's a smattering of more exotic dishes to satisfy you if you aren't purely set on re-living your studentdom. Sheba surprises. You can try Adrakwala Murg, chicken cooked with ginger, lemon and garlic, and Shofri Ghust, melting soft lamb with pumpkin. But naturally, alongside a garlic nan, framed by poppadoms and chutneys, if you wish.
9) You'll sit here and remember why you love a good curry, self-indulgently cuddly; the onesie of food.
10) You'll remember too, that Brick Lane's pretty special. It celebrates a pocket of London's longstanding patchwork community, and deserves its place on the tourist map. But it deserves a flag on the natives’ map too....read more

“I came here following reading reviews online and nothing seems to match what i read online! this makes me believe most of the reviews are either written by the staff or owner to increase its rating. food full of artificial colours and tasteless. Service was the rudest ever encountered and the place was filthy.”

“The food quality was good but the quantity of the food was not enough. You pay everage £14 for a single dish and the food is not really enough for one person. I paid more then £14 for chicken and got six cubes of chicken with big pieces of tomato and onion. Moreover, no salad or sauce was served, very limited choice of soft drinks. We have to eat again from takeaway after dining at Sheba. They need to increase the quantity of the food. Service was good.”

“A nice little restaurant in the heart of Brick Lane. Sheba does some of the tastiest curries in London. The lamb shank just delicately falls off the bone and its delicious. The Pilaou rice is piping hot and nice and fluffy, the peshwari naan is perfect. Sheba is a great place for indian food lovers.”
