Wing Wing Review

Wing Wing is featured in these Guides:

Top 10 things to know about Wing Wing:

1)  Wing Wing restaurant offers hip, Gangnam style culture. Korean-spiced crispy wings in close proximity to a university is always a winning formula for any aspiring restauranteur.

2)  It helps that the student density per square mile in London’s Russell Square is probably one of the highest in the country. UCL, SOAS, Senate House are all a short stroll from the restaurant. These liberal, multicultural diners demand their comfort food served with exotic, world flavours.

3)  The decor is all about sharp, pop video colours and bold slogans such as "Hot Birds Inside". Make no mistake, this is a fast food joint, but very much in the K-pop 21st century sense. In fact, the venue is modelled on chimaek joints of Korea; chimaek = chicken + maekju (Korean for beer).

4)  It would be criminally wrong not to order their crunchy-skinned, signature wings. They are packed with strong piquant flavours, such as soy garlic and liquorice. Colonel Sanders would be proud of this young pretender to the throne; the fried chicken here is crispier and the flavours even richer.

5)  Slurp away on their exotic sounding drinks, such as coconut soy ginger beer slush, or more heavy duty London craft beers and Korean classics.

6)  It's not just indulgent wings and beer for you to enjoy. Vegetarians are well-catered for too: crispy fried halloumi burgers have a divine variation of textures; and, fancy yuzu-dressed tofu salad delivers citrus power.

7)  The Koreans love frying their food as much as we Brits like to batter it. Bloomsbury might not be the British seaside, but the fried prawns and calamari in their seafood box will get you reminiscing about the beach.

8)  They are keen to contribute to London’s dangerous bao addiction with a series of bao desserts. You might get luscious banana caramel bao nuts or the fruity freshness of strawberry creme bao nuts. Whichever you choose, remember that obsession is a serious health risk.

9) By adding seaweed to their fries and kimchi to their coleslaw (with a promise that it is the freshest and flyest, whatever that means), they are ramping up the K-love, even in their side dishes.

10) What's the damage? With the wings and the mains stamped with student prices, there is no excuse not to be K-hip like PSY.
