The Sun Inn Review

Top 10 things you need to know about The Sun Inn:

1) In Barnes there is an appealing pub by the park, almost supervising the pond. It is the perfect spot when you think of wanting to hang out with your friends and welcome the summer season;

2) As soon as you arrive, The Sun welcomes you, literally: a smiling sun is the pub emblem. The atmosphere is very English country house: comfy leather armchairs, huge mirrors, paintings and pictures, tables and chairs of various sizes. A few enclaves provide a more private dinner prospect;

3) It is a quite popular venue, possibly suggesting the same idea to everybody: a nice day out, a hearty meal and couple of beers;

4) We order at the desk - wine, ciders, spirits, a good range of lagers and bitters, what more to desire - and the place is funky and young, the staff are reminiscent of those big groups of friends you make at the seaside: young, tanned, smiling, positive!

5) Sunday roast comes accompanied by a trendy leek served on a separate plate, floating in a charming cheese sauce;

6) An array of sauces form part of the table setting. Hum, which one should to taste? Horseradish, apple and sage jelly, or the classic English mustard?

7) Who wants pudding when you’re on a pre-bikini diet? In this case, however, it is quite impossible to say no to dessert. The peanut butter cookie is the best of all and – with no shame – to be gulped down one thrilling morsel at a time;

8) When out with a large group of friends, as this pub suggests, you might need a bit of respite: a moment of fresh air is provided in the rear beer garden, where it is possible to have all meals if the weather allows it;

9) I am reassured that it is always busy here on weekends, so booking your table is almost mandatory;

10) An overall score for the day is definitely an 8. The most enjoyable part: the walk in the park after dinner. It is, by all means, the best portion of the day. more

“Love touring London pubs, this one was excellent, would have been nice to have seen a pub quiz, but there again I'm a bit of a fanatic.”

“This pub is and always was run by a large brewery. Six Continants. It is still popular but very tatty looking on a second glance. The bar area is always full of rubbish and empty bottles and coffee cups. Plates stay on the table far too long after eating and the bar staff seem to be more interested in finishing the shift and chatting than customer service. The food is overpriced and usually overcooked. Manager, Who's that? When you actually get to see them could be better presentated. The pub also stinks of drains which is off putting. There is not a garden area but a front seating area and a back area placed in the middle of the car park with heat lamps that are always broken.”

“I cannot understand the attitude of some people when they suggest that this pub has no ambience and no service. I found the access to the Sun Inn as a wheelchair user very good, the service I received was excellent and cannot fault. The food is tasty and I shall be returning. The only critisism I have is the access for wheelchair users to the lower garden is non exsistant.”

“I know london - I've lived here for 25 years. I am also a member of a real ale association in the UK. Wild horses wouldn't drag me back to this pub. The bar staff are the most disagreeable people I have ever had the misfortune to come across and the least friendliest in London (ever). Give this one a miss......expensive, full of people you would not want to share a rail carriage with and surly and poor ambience. Don't be fooled by the warming facade........”

“Oh dear, this place looks fantastic when you walk in, all the charm of an old fashion pub. But there is a problem, no matter how great the place looks it's spoilt by rude bar staff, a manager lacking in ability to provide quality service and the glass of beer I purchased was expensive and served in a dirty glass! Unfortunately on this basis I would not recommend until they clean up their act.”

“The food is good, though not the main attraction. This pub pours a very fine pint. It's the only pub in Barnes that we know of that is not affiliated with a major brewery, so you get some excellent microbrewed choices from London, and some better known- but still very tasty brews from Belgium, and the Czech Republic and beyond. ”

“Shockingly rude staff and terrible service. Went for Sunday lunch with three friends - one meal failed to arrive and upon questioning where it was ten minutes later, was rudely informed that it hadn't arrived because we'd changed tables. We hadn't. No apology was offered. Sat for another 15 minutes before politely requesting a free round of drinks while we waited (three of us had already finished our meals, one of us still hadn't received his). Were abruptly refused and once again accused of moving tables by the same member of staff. Asked to see the manager only to be told the terse, uhelpful member of staff we were talking to was the manager. I strongly recommend you don't bother setting foot in this establishment!! ”

“Great pub, shame about the management. Very unfriendly and rude, and have no shame in charging a lot of money for very basic food. My favourite is being charged £2.50 for a bit of bread - and that was after paying £8.50 for a couple of slices of salami, beef and a bit of pate (that was also very poor quality). Desparately in need of new manqagement.”

“I had a pint of Real Ale and after three sips demanded my £2.60 back to go to the Coach & Horses for a decent Pint.”

“Was here last night (Tuesday eveving) and the place was a little dead. I think management seazed the opportunity to train up the new staff as the service was a little lacking / unprofessional. The food however was very good (even if the menu was a little short) and the wines excellent. Just a shame the guy behind the bar stuffed up my bill and then gave the impression sorting it out was just a little too much hassle.”

“What a find. Almost had the feel of a local pub down in the Cotswolds. There on a Wednesday night and not a seat to be found, though standing at the bar wasn't a chore as the bar staff were rather lovely. An extra star would have been awarded as they've got one of those ol' school 'arcade' tables with invasion, kong, pac man and the like. But had to take a star off for the lack of a late license or failing that a lock in, which any decent pub like this down in the country would definitly have.”
