Coach & Horses Description

A great traditional Young's pub on Barnes High Street with a large beer garden serving real ales and home cooked food. Open mic nights every Sunday from 7.30pm in the Wanut Room. Come and join in or just come along to watch the local talent. Our Walnut Room and bar is available to hire for up to 45 people and has its own bar and big screen if required. Busy and full of character with a villagey atmosphere, the smallest of three Young's pubs in Barnes. The Coach & Horses can be traced back to 1818 and was bought by Young's in 1831. Floodlit pétanque piste. Barbecue in summer.

“Great for lunch. £6 for a burger & chips - perfect! (BTW Beer garden is large...)”

“Was in London for a few days, looking around. Went to the Coach & Horses with a friend, lovely garden, lovely weather... Unfortunately I cannot say the same about food.... They really need a chef in the kitchen and not a landlady who doesn't know how to cook and starts drinking at 1 pm every day.... Good for locals maybe, that she drinks with them but for tourists, not really good publicity. Looks like the bar staff enjoy their drink every day from early afternoon as well!”

“It is one of the best pubs i ever been. People are lovely there and staff like Jo and Leslie just know how to make your day!”

“I ended up in here (after I got my £2.60 back from the Sun just up the road) because the beer was foul. I had an excellent Pint of Youngs in the Coach & Horses with my refunded £2.60 and still got some change.”

“I think this is the most comfortable pub in South West London - the beer, wine and athmosphere are all excellent - a traditional small London pub. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly.”

“For moojonga to give this pub 1/5 for atmosphere is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It doesn't need changing even slightly. Fortunatly, people like Moojonga have plenty of choice if they want something different, leaving the real pub atmosphere unspoilt.”

“Christ - just read the last review - who the f*ck was that? Some spikey bleached haired ponse who hangs around in gastro pubs wondering what next type of hair gel they're going to buy from Toni & Guy and posing like a fag at the bar? Feck off no atmosphere! This is the best kept old pub in Barnes by a long way - you walk in, the bar staff are polite and crack jokes, folk bring their dogs in the pub, everybody knows everyone else and if you don't know anyone it's one of the few pubs that strangers will chat to you about stuff that will actually interest you rather than what's on tv - and probably buy you a drink, you get pork scratchings, no ponsy Kettle Chips for £3 a bag, it's got good cheap beer, no blaring sh*te music so you can hear yourself think, no constant tv going in the corner so you can have a conversation to someones face and not the back of their head as they watch I'm a Fecking Celeb in the Jungle, good honest food, cracking massive atmospheric garden, you have to walk outside to another building to have a slash - how cool is that!, and if you can still read there are books on the bookshelf to read so you don't have to speak to some lame arse Pop Idol wannabe who comes swanning in off the street cos they've got lost on the way to All Bar One or the Sun Inn. I pray that they never ever get the planning to try and renovate it - it's a breath of fresh (if somewhat smokey) air, and one of the few last remaining honest, hardworking, untouched good old traditional English pubs. Five star”

“Situated in Barnes Hight St towards the river this Youngs pub has long been popular with a 30+ local clientele. A large garden and good lunch time food make it popular with families, but it is fast going downhill will continue to do so pending refurbishment and a change of management to inject a better atmosphere. Frankly its just a rather ordinary boozer with a decent garden.”
